Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA - The 66ers (2-12) were swept by the High Desert Mavericks (10-4) on Wednesday dropping the third game of the series 6-4. Mavericks starting pitcher Ariel Jurado (2-0) would get his second win of the season despite allowing four runs in his six innings of work.
The 66ers jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Tim Arakawa lead off the frame with a double to left field. Arakawa would then score on a Jose Briceno sacrifice fly after he advanced to third on a Caleb Adams single.
The Mavericks would get to Sixers starter Jeremy Rhoades (1-2) in the top of 4th inning. Back to back doubles by Luke Tendler and Tripp Martin would get the Mavericks on the board. Martin would then score on a bad luck Jeremy Rhoades throwing error that bounced off of Jairo Beras who was trying to beat out a ground ball to the pitcher. After Jose Trevino coaxed a walk, Seth Spivey would double to left field scoring both Beras and Trevino. Following a David Lyon single, Jeremy Rhoades would induce a double play off the bat of Josh Morgan and then retire Juremi Profar on a comebacker to the mound to avoid further damage.
Inland Empire would score two runs in the fourth via back-to-back RBI singles from both Taylor Ward and Zach Houchins. They would add a run in the sixth to cut the Mavs lead to one when Caleb Adams scored after Jurado uncorked a wild pitch. The Mavs would tack on an insurance run in the seventh when Michael De Leon doubled home Profar off of 66er newcomer Nate Fury.
The 66ers would make things interesting in the bottom of the ninth. With Mavericks reliever John Fasola on the mound, Michael Strentz and Trevor Allen hit back-to-back one out singles to put the tying run on first. Fasola would bounce back striking out Ayendy Perez and retiring Tim Arakawa on a week grounder to second base to end the game.
The 66ers head to Stockton Thursday to begin a four game series with the Ports. Tyler Carpenter (1-0 0.00 ERA) takes the mound for the 66ers against Stockton's Casey Meisner (0-0 4.00 ERA). First pitch time is 7:10 PM and can be heard live on KPRO 1570 AM or through the 66ers radio network on 66ers.com.
