Bakersfield Blaze News Release

One night after clubbing 13 hits and scoring six runs, the bats for the Bakersfield Blaze went virtually silent in a 1-0 loss to the Modesto Nuts. Sam Howard and Tyler Pike were locked in to quite the pitchers duel until Howard left after 5.2 innings. With the game still scoreless, Pike continued to push until someone finally pushed back. Roberto Ramos hit a solo home run in the 7th inning into right field that stayed just inside the foul pole to help break 0-0 draw. Pike's performance was consistent with what Anthony Misiewicz and Tyler Herb did in the prior two games of the series, but he had no run support to go with his effort. Unfortunately for Pike, he got beat by one pitch. The Blaze had an opportunity to tie the game in the 9th when Jay Baum hit a two-out triple into the right field corner, but Joe DeCarlo flied out to left and that ended the game. Baum was 2-4 with that triple and a double in the defeat. Modesto took two of three in the series and the Blaze are now 2-6 in 1-run games this year. Troy Neiman picked up the win and Jerry Vasto recorded his second save in three tries. Modesto improves their record to 6-7, while Bakersfield falls to 4-9. The game ends a seven-game road trip for Bakersfield as they return home to square off against Lake Elsinore in a four-game series starting Thursday night at 7:15pm.
