A Career Year

Tesho Akindele scored his seventh goal of the 2019 season against New England last Saturday, trailing only Nani on the squad. With the finish, Akindele tied his single-season career-high in regular season play, which he set in his 2014 MLS Rookie of the Year campaign. Prior to his arrival in Orlando, Akindele spent five seasons with FC Dallas, drafted third-overall in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft before being traded to the Lions on December 9th of last year.

Leading the Charge

Nani registered his eighth assist of the season on Akindele's finish in New England last week. The Portuguese midfielder leads the Lions in goal contributions with 16 this season, having scored eight goals in addition to his eight assists in 2019. Chris Mueller, Dom Dwyer and Akindele follow him with eight goal contributions apiece this season.

Welcome Mauricio!

The Lions announced a new addition to their roster this past week in Uruguayan midfielder Mauricio Pereyra. Pereyra joins City as a mid-year Designated Player on a free transfer from FC Krasnodar. The 29-year old spent six years with the Russian side and led the squad to five top-five finishes in Russian Premier League play. Pereyra appeared in over 200 matches across all competitions for FC Krasnodar, including 11 matches in Europa League Qualifying, and 28 matches in Europa League.

A Week for the Stars

Orlando City captain Nani represented the Lions on Wednesday night in the 2019 MLS All-Star Game at Exploria Stadium, earning a start in the match and registering 45 minutes for the All-Star side coached by Orlando City Head Coach James O'Connor. Nani also participated in the MLS All-Stars Skills Challenge, along with teammates Chris Mueller and Sebastián Méndez, comprising Orlando City's team. The hometown side won the Skills Challenge title, with Nani hitting a shot off the crossbar in the final seconds to give Orlando City the victory and $25,000 to the Orlando City Foundation. Lions' forward Benji Michel and goalkeeper Mason Stajduhar represented City at the 2019 MLS Homegrown Game, with each earning a start. Michel registered 45 minutes in the match, while Stajduhar logged 32.
