Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, NE - Tri-City Storm defenseman Nate Jensen has accepted a scholarship offer to play at Mercyhurst College beginning in the 2010-11 season.
A native of Minnetonka, Minn., Jensen has three goals and 10 assists through the Storm's first 20 games, and his 13 points rank him seventh in the top 10 in scoring among all United States Hockey League defensemen.
Mercyhurst College is located in Erie, Pa., and plays in the Atlantic Hockey Association.
"I had a great campus visit a couple weeks ago, and I immediately felt like it was a place where I will fit in," Jensen said. "It's a team that pushes the puck and plays strong, which suits my style."
Jensen's family has deep hockey roots. His father, David, played for the NHL's Hartford Whalers and Washington Capitals, and he was a member of the 1984 U.S. Olympic Team. David Jensen also is senior vice president of USA Hockey Magazine. Nate's uncle, Paul, played on the 1976 U.S. Olympic Team.
"This is an exciting time for me and my family," Nate Jensen said. "I've grown up around hockey, and it's always been my goal to make my family proud and play Division I hockey. "Mercyhurst is a great school, and I'm excited to go there and see what I can do to help leave my mark on the program."
