Lancaster Stormers News Release

Coming into Tuesday, the Camden Riversharks were last in the league in hitting home runs. The Lancaster Barnstormers pitching staff had given up the fewest.

But, baseball is baseball, and in the Tuesday matinee at Clipper Magazine Stadium, the Riversharks belted four solo shots helping to lift Bryan Corey to a 7-2 victory over the Barnstormers.

With the loss, Lancaster's club record-tying seven-game winning streak came to an end. Meanwhile, Camden moved into a temporary tie with Bridgeport for first place in the Liberty Division.

The offense on the day started off with a salvo of singles off John Halama (5-6). Pedro Feliz opened the second with a liner to center. One out later, Alvin Colina stroked a line drive to left. Fehlandt Lentini raced in and dove forward. When he held his glove up, the ball was in it, but it was ruled to have been trapped, putting runners at first and second. Eduardo Perez picked up the only walk of the game to load the bases. Halama struck out Danny Santiesteban, but Jake Eigsti roped the first pitch into center, driving home two. Chris Walker followed with a ground single into left for a 3-0 lead.

Then came the homers. Lancaster hit the first, a solo shot by Jaime Pedroza off Corey (6-6) that cleared the right side of the batters eye in the bottom of the second. Camden responded with a pair of back-to-back shots by Brian Burgamy and Feliz in the top of the third.

Raul Padron and Eigsti added blasts late in the game.

Lancaster had chances to claw back in the game. Down, 5-1, the Barnstormers opened the third with three straight hits. Brad Boyer doubled, Bridger Hunt bunted his way on, and Blake Gailen picked up a run with a smash into right. Corey got Lentini to ground into a double play to smother the threat.

Camden went to its bullpen in the seventh, and the Barnstormers had a runner reach scoring position every inning. They could never break through as the Riversharks coasted to the win.

The two clubs meet again on Wednesday evening at 7:00. Sean Jarrett (4-4) will come off the DL to make the start for Camden. Lancaster will counter with Mark Brackman (5-3). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.

NOTES: Pedroza's homer extended his hitting streak to 16 games...Emerson Frostad kept a streak alive at 10...Boyer had his third three-hit game as a Barnstormer...Lancaster has lost Halama's last four starts, scoring only eight runs...Walker stole a base in the fourth inning and became the Atlantic League's fifth leading base stealer of all-time with 169 in his career...The seven runs was the most allowed by the Barnstormers in July.
