York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution bounced back in a big way, clobbering the Bridgeport Bluefish 10-0 in front of 3,862 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Tuesday evening. It was a much-needed victory for the team, which snapped a season-high six-game losing streak while rebounding from their most lopsided loss of the year the night before, as well as for starting pitcher Chris Waters who returned to form in combining on the shutout. The Revs will next host the Bluefish on Wednesday morning at 11 a.m.

Waters (2-2) earned his first win since June 19 when he also combined on a shutout, and put three shaky starts behind him during which he had battled muscle cramping. The lefty allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out a season-high six, and matched his season-best by going five total innings.

After stranding three runners in scoring position over the first two frames, Waters received a big boost from his teammates who enjoyed their biggest inning since June 25, scoring five times in the bottom of the second inning, all with two outs. After a two-out walk to James Shanks, Travis Scott ripped a single up the middle advancing Shanks to third. Scott Grimes then delivered an RBI single up the middle to open the scoring, and Danny Gonzalez followed with a base knock to left, plating the second run. Jeff Fiorentino then drilled an RBI double off the top of the fence in left-center, and Liu Rodriguez put the exclamation point on the rally with a two-run single to left.

The Revs added three more runs, again all with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Rodriguez added to his big night with a two-run double down the right field line, giving him four RBI total which matched his career-high with York for the second time in his last five games played. Ramon Castro added an RBI single through the right side of the infield, chasing Bluefish starter Chris Hayes (0-3) who was charged with eight runs in 3.2 innings, absorbing the loss.

Shanks added a solo homer to left in the bottom of the fifth, his ninth of the season and 40th of his Revs career, pulling within two of matching the club's all-time record. It was also his 23rd all-time at Sovereign Bank Stadium, taking over the all-time lead in ballpark history.

Chris Nowak put the finishing touches on the offensive side of it with a booming home run to left in the bottom of the seventh. It was his 13th of the season and 38th of his Revs career, as he is also in pursuit of the all-time record of 42 held by former Revs outfielder Jason Aspito, now just four shy of the mark. Grimes still holds the inside track to the record with 41 homers.

Yunior Novoa turned in three scoreless innings out of the Revs bullpen, shrinking his ERA in relief to 1.70 for the season. He has allowed just three earned runs in 21.2 innings since June 17.

Ricardo Gomez closed it out with a pair of strikeouts in a 1-2-3 ninth, cementing the Revs' sixth shutout victory of the season.

The win matched the Revs' largest in a shutout this season, as they also defeated Southern Maryland by a 10-0 count on June 13.

It was the Revs' first win of the second half (1-4) as they avoided their worst start to a half, and avoided matching the longest losing streak in team history, snapping their skid at six games.

York 's Chris Cody (4-10, 4.70) will face Bridgeport's Paul Oseguera (5-2, 2.73) in Wednesday's game at 11 a.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Camp Day which features an appearance by SpongeBob SquarePants. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
