'Stormers Home Streak Comes to an End

June 12, 2018 - Atlantic League (AtL) - Lancaster Stormers News Release

The New Britain Bees put together the biggest offensive surge against the Barnstormers in 2018 on Tuesday night, clubbing Lancaster, 10-5, to end a seven-game 'Stormers home winning streak.

With the loss, the Barnstormers lead over second place Sugar Land was trimmed back to four games.

New Britain struck for 10 runs, the most scored on the Lancaster staff in 40 games this year. They rapped out 16 hits, tying the season high against the Barnstormers.

Most of it came in the form of the largest inning yielded by Lancaster pitching this season, a six-run second.

After the Barnstormers manufactured a pair of runs in the bottom of the first, Nate Reed (5-1) walked the first two batters of the second inning. Jamar Walton slugged a three-run homer over the tent in right to vault the Bees into a 3-2 lead. Reed retired two of the next three hitters, but Darren Ford, Deibonson Romero, Jason Rogers and Josh Thole strung together four singles to produce the three extra runs for a 6-2 lead.

Rogers added an RBI single in the fourth off Reed.

Lancaster was able to mount a comeback and eventually had the tying runs on base. Rico Noel's fly ball to deep center was misjudged by Ford and fell just shy of the warning track for an RBI triple. Blake Gailen followed with a single to right, cutting the lead to 7-4.

In the sixth, Joey Terdoslavich led off with a single to left and moved up as Trayvon Robinson tapped out to the catcher. Vladimir Frias cut the lead to 7-5 with a double to the fence in right center. Zach Stewart walked Carlos Garcia, filling in first base. However, the New Britain right-hander responded with a first pitch double play grounder out of Tyler Bortnick to cut the rally short.

The Bees put the game away with three in the eighth. Jamar Walton and Ozney Guillen produced doubles off lefty Jared Lakind. Vinny Siena added an RBI single, and Ford capped the scoring with an RBI double to the left field corner.

The two clubs meet again on Wednesday evening. Steve Johnson (3-1) will get the start for the Barnstormers against Kyle Simon (3-3). Fans may tune into Blue Ridge Cable 11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.
