Iowa Barnstormers News Release
DES MOINES - The Iowa Barnstormers (5-9) travel to the Bluegrass State for a Saturday, July 19 match-up with Midwest Division co-leaders Lexington Horsemen (9-5) at historic Rupp Arena.
Kick-off is scheduled at 6:30pm, Iowa time, Saturday, July 19 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky.
Both teams seek to build on momentum from wins last week as the âStormers scored a season-high 76 points in dominating Quad City, while Lexington managed a comeback victory in securing a one point overtime win over Midwest Division co-leader Green Bay.
âStormers Play-off Scenario. There are currently a number of teams fighting for the final two American Conference playoff berths. Leading the way are Louisville, Manchester and Quad City, all of which boast identical 7-7 records. On the outside looking in are Albany and the Barnstormers at 5-9. The Barnstormers need the following scenarios to play out over the final two weeks of the 2008 season.
1. Louisville, Manchester and Quad City must lose both their final two games.
2. Albany must lose one of its final two games.
3. The Barnstormers must win both of their final two games
4. The af2 multiple team tie-breaker format would then be applied first utilizing a common opponents tie-breaker, then possibly a three-way head-to-head tiebreaker depending on the remaining teams.
âStormers Among Defensive League Leaders
Through Week 14, the âStormers have a number of leaders near the top of af2 individual statistical categories. DB Daniel McLemore's two interceptions last week give him eleven for the season, which ranks fifth in the af2. McLemore is also second in the af2 in passes broken up, with 25 break ups.
DB Tanner Varner is also among the league leaders in tackles. Coming off a Quad City game that saw him register nine solo stops, Varner currently ranks sixth in the af2 with 79 tackles.
Barnstormers' fans can catch all the action live from Lexington on ESPN AM 1700 The Champ or broadcast online on the Barnstormers Video Network found at http://www.theiowabarnstormers.com/
