This Week's Opponents

Chicago: The Storm will look to remain unbeaten against the Sky when the two teams meet for the final time this season tonight at KeyArena. Seattle has won all three previous meetings with Chicago, including an 81-69 win in Chicago on June 12. Sue Bird led the way for the Storm with 17 points and 11 assists for her first double-double of the season, but rookie Katie Gearlds stole the show by connecting on 4-of-5 three-point attempts en route to a career-high 17 points. The Sky, under new head coach Bo Overton, have already surpassed their win total from a year ago (five).

Houston: After entering the season on a four-game losing streak against the Comets, the Storm have won two straight against Houston in 2007. Both victories came at KeyArena, including the Storm's historic comeback from 22 points down in an 82-69 win on Opening Night. The Storm outscored the Comets 44-9 over the final 15 minutes of that game. Lauren Jackson poured in 30 points in the rematch on June 15, shooting 5-of-7 from behind the arc to lead the Storm to an 84-71 win. Houston still owns a 17-9 lead all-time, including a 12-1 mark against Seattle at the Toyota Center.

New York: Seattle swept New York last year, including a 91-54 win at Madison Square Garden on 7/22/06 that was the third-largest margin of victory in franchise history. Iziane Castro Marques led the way for the Storm, scoring a career-high 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting in just 26 minutes of action. The Storm have won the last two meetings against the Liberty at KeyArena and have pulled within a game of New York in the all-time series (6-5).

Bird Nears Assist Milestone

Sue Bird enters tonight's game needing just 10 assists to reach 1,000 for her career. Bird will become the youngest WNBA player ever to reach the milestone. Bird already owns the record for most point/assist double-doubles in a season (seven in 2003) and her career average of 5.6 assists per game ranks second all-time. Here's a look at the members of the WNBA's 1,000-assist club and how long it took each player to get there:
