March 5, 2004 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY â The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League announced Friday that the 2004 United Way jersey raffle held following last Saturday's game raised a total of $17,335, a record amount for the four-year event.
The annual auction features Storm players wearing specially designed jerseys during a game. This year's jersey featured a vintage design to help commemorate the Kearney Area United Way's 40th year of service in the area. They were designed by Kim Covi of Kearney.
A silent auction is held throughout the game with the two highest bidders then taking part in a live auction following the contest. This year's total of $17,335 surpasses the previous record of $13,200 set last season. Over $45,000 have been raised in the four years of the jersey auction. Also, for the fourth consecutive year the Nebraska Lottery was a partner in the event as the game night sponsor.
The money generated from the raffle will be presented to the United Way during the first intermission of tomorrow's game against Green Bay.
