News and upcoming events for the week of Tuesday, October 20th - October 26th.
A Monday game in Kitchener and two home games on Friday and Sunday saw the Storm pick up two points this week. Cody McNaughton led the way on Monday scoring two, but the Storm fell short losing to the Rangers by a score of 3-2. On Friday night at the Sleeman Centre, Peter Holland picked up the lone Storm tally in a 4-1 loss to the Erie Otters. The Storm rebounded on Sunday afternoon when they hosted Sudbury at the Sleeman Centre. Scoring five times in the second, the Storm went on to defeat the Wolves 6-4. Peter Holland led the way with three points on the night while Travis Gibbons and Evgeny Molotilov both had two. Tyler Melancon, Brandon Buck, Anthony Nigro, Taylor Beck and Cody McNaughton also scored for the Storm in the win. With two points this past week, the Storm continue to top the Midwest Division, tied with the London Knights with 17 points.  Â
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending October 19th) -Peter Holland
Peter was the leading point getter on the Storm this week picking up two goals and four assists for six points in three games. The second year forward was also in on four straight Storm goals starting Monday against the Rangers. The Caledon native started the week off with two assists in the Storm's 3-2 loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Monday afternoon at the Aud. Friday night at home against the Otters, the Caledon native scored the only Storm goal in the 4-1 loss. Named the second star of the game, Peter was easily one of the best players in a Guelph uniform. To cap off a solid week, the 17 year old led his team to a 6-4 victory over the Wolves at the Sleeman Centre on Sunday afternoon recording one goal and two assists in the wild affair.Â
After 13 games this season, Peter leads the Storm in goals with six and is tied with teammates Taylor Beck and Luke Pither for the team lead in overall points with 13.
Thursday, October 23rd: Guelph Storm at Windsor Spitfires, 7:00 pm
Thursday night the Storm travel to Windsor to take on the CHL leading Spitfires for their first match-up of the 2008-09 season. These two teams face each other four times this year, with the next contest back in Windsor on Thursday, December 4th. The Spitfires make their way to the Sleeman Centre on Friday, January 23rd at 7:30 pm and Tuesday, February 10th at 7:00pm. Last week's top rated CHL team, Windsor currently leads the OHL with a record of 12-1-0-0 for 24 points. Â
Friday, October 24th: Owen Sound Attack at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm
The Attack enters the eye of the Storm for the first time this 2008-09 season. Earlier this month, the Storm lost 4-3 to the Attack in a shootout at the Harry Lumley Community Centre in Owen Sound. With eight contests between the two this year, the next battle will take place in Owen Sound on December 13th. The Storm will host the Attack three more times this season after Friday's game with January 2nd being the next contest followed by February 20th and March 8th. Sitting fourth in the Midwest Division, the Attack have a record of 4-4-2-1 with 11 points.
Sunday, October 26th: Saginaw Spirit at Guelph Storm. 2:00 pm
The Saginaw Spirit make their first regular season visit to the Sleeman Centre on Sunday afternoon. These two teams face each other four times during the 2008-09 season with this contest being the first. The next visit is in January on the 4th when the Storm travel to Saginaw for a 4:00 start. The Spirit are currently in second place in the West Division with 14 points, 10 points behind the leading Windsor Spitfires.
Spyke's Halloween Bash
The Guelph Storm will host Spyke's Annual Halloween Bash on Sunday, October 26th when the Storm play host to the Saginaw Spirit. During the second intermission, young Storm fans in costume will be invited to join Spyke and Stormy on the ice for the Halloween Parade. Candy will also be available throughout the arena for the 'trick or treaters'.
Tickets for Served by the Storm Going Fast
Tickets to this popular event are currently on sale. Casey's Bar & Grill (494 Edinburgh Road South) will host this event on Monday, November 10th starting at 6:00pm. Tickets can be purchased at the Guelph Storm table behind section 115 at every Storm home game or by visiting the Guelph Storm Box Office in the Old Quebec Street Mall. Ticket prices for the "Served By The Storm" Dinner including meal, non-alcoholic refreshments, dessert and gratuity are $20 per ticket. For more information call 519-837-9690.
Tickets Still Available for the ADT Canada/Russia Challenge at the Sleeman Centre-Nov. 20th
Be part of history, when the Team Russia visits Guelph to face off against the OHL's top Canadian born players on November 20th. Last year, Drew Doughty (pictured) squared off agains the Russians in a pair of Canada-Russia Challenge games before capturing gold with Canada.Â
Tickets are now on sale for the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge game to be played at the Sleeman Centre. Purchase tickets in person, or by calling the Guelph Storm box office in Old Quebec Street Mall at (519) 837-9690. Tickets are also available at all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling or visiting Ticketmaster.caÂ
Ticket prices for the ADT Canada-Russia Challenge game in Guelph are $20 for all regular lower bowl seats, $25 for lower bowl Club seats and $30 for 200 level Club seats. Guelph Storm season ticket holders can purchase their seats for this game for just $15 for all ticket types by calling or visiting the Guelph Storm box office on, or before November 11th.
