Guelph Storm News Release
Coming off a perfect weekend last week, the Storm looked to continue their winnings ways when they headed East for their 2008-09 Eastern road swing. Facing off against the Frontenacs on Friday night, Peter Holland scored with less than one minute remaining in regulation and once again in OT to help his team pick up two points and remain undefeated. Saturday night in Belleville, the 5-0 Storm squared off against the 4-1 Bulls with the home side coming out on top in a tight 2-1 contest. A missed opportunity late in the third proved to be the difference as the Storm powerplay failed to click on a four minute man advantage. Anthony Nigro scored the lone Storm goal in the loss. Playing their third game in less than 48 hours, the Storm struggled to find their legs early in the game falling behind 2-1 after 20 minutes and didn't recover on their way to a 4-1 loss. Last week's OHL Player of the Week, Luke Pither, scored the Storm's only goal in the loss. Jake Fischer made his first start in goal for the Storm since winning the season opener and fared well against his former mates. The Guelph back-up couldn't be faulted on any of the 67's three goals and Ottawa added an empty netter late. With two points on the weekend, the Storm currently sit second in the Western Conference, two points behind the Windsor Spitfires, with a record of 5-2.
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending October 12th) -Peter Holland
Peter picked up two goals in the only Storm win this past weekend on their 2008-09 Eastern road swing. Playing the Frontenacs on Friday night at the K-ROCK Centre, the Caledon native scored the tying goal with less than a minute remaining in regulation and once again in overtime to lift his team over the Frontenacs and, at the time, retain their perfect record. Held off the scoresheet the rest of the weekend, the 17 year old was awarded with the third star of the game on Friday night for his play.
