Guelph Storm News Release
The Storm bounced back from two losses earlier in the week to beat the Soo Greyhounds 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the GSEC. For the third time this season the Storm fell in a shootout losing 6-5 to the Erie Otters on Wednesday night at the Erie Civic Centre. Tyler Melancon scored twice in the contest and Cody St. Jacques got his third start in a Storm uniform. On Friday night the Storm faced off against the Sudbury Wolves, falling behind 1-0 only 33 seconds into the contest , the Storm never recovered and lost 3-1 to the Wolves. The 4-1 win over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon and the shootout loss to the Otters gave the Storm three points on the week improving their record to 10-8-1-3.
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending November 12th )
Drew Doughty- The second-year defenceman picked up two goals and four assists for six points in three games this week. Doughty began the week with his first of two three-point performances in the Storm's 6-5 shootout loss in Erie on Wednesday night. The London native collected a powerplay goal and added two assists in the shootout loss. On Sunday afternoon in front of 4,333 at the GSEC, Doughty helped lead the Storm out of their recent slide with a performance that earned him first star honours in Guelph's 4-1 win over the Soo Greyhounds. The talented blueliner jumped into second overall in Storm scoring and seventh overall in OHL defenceman scoring with three points on Sunday including one goal and two assists.
Former Storm Forward Giving Back to Guelph
The Guelph Storm Hockey Club is excited to introduce the "Goals For Kids" Campaign in support of the Salvation Army - a new community initiative developed by former Storm winger Andrew Long of Coldwell Banker Neumann Real Estate Brokerage.
Through the "Goals For Kids" Program, Andrew has pledged to donate $10 for every goal scored by the Guelph Storm on home ice before Christmas. Every dollar donated through the "Goals For Kids" Program will be used to purchase gifts for underprivileged children during the Holiday Season.
With six home games remaining before the Christmas break, the Storm has scored 36 goals for a current donation of $360.00. Andrew will be on hand at the Storm's final home game before Christmas on Sunday, December 17th to make the generous donation to the Salvation Army. Storm Players Visit local Zellers and Home Outfitters
Meet several members of the Guelph Storm on Wednesday night at each of four local Zellers locations, plus the new Home Outfitters in Stone Road Mall. Wednesday will be a great opportunity for fans to pick up some Guelph Storm gear for Christmas at local Zellers and personalize it with some Storm autographs. On Wednesday, November 15th, Storm players will be on-hand at each Zellers location in Guelph and Fergus, as well as the Home Outfitters to meet fans and sign autographs and Storm merchandise for fans between 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm.
Santa Claus Parade - Sunday, November 19th
On November 19th at 1:30 several Guelph Storm players will be joining the Guelph Storm Trackers Fan Club on a float for the annual Santa Claus Parade. Spyke will also be in attendance watching from the float as the Storm players hand out candy. The parade starts at London Road and Norfolk Street and ends at the Police Station on Fountain Street. 11/14/2006 Page 1 of 1
Limited Tickets Remaining for the "Served by the Storm" Dinner: Monday November 20th
Tickets for the 8th Annual "Served by the Storm" Dinner are going fast and only a limited amount remain. They will only be available for sale until November 16th. The popular event will be hosted by Casey's Bar & Grill (494 Edinburgh Road South) on Monday, November 20th. Fans attending the dinner can meet their Storm in a fun, unique setting with every member of the team working for the night as waiters. Every dollar raised from the event is donated to the Adopt A School program to provide tickets to local elementary schools.
Friday, November 17th: Guelph Storm at Sudbury Wolves, 7:30 pm
- The Storm travel to Sudbury to take on the Wolves for the second time in a week. This contest marks the last time these two teams will face each other this year. On Friday night the Wolves handed the Storm their sixth loss in as many games beating Guelph 3-1.
Saturday, November 18th: Guelph Storm at Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, 7:30pm
- Guelph travels to Sault Ste. Marie for the first time this season. The other two contests were played at the GSEC and saw the Greyhounds win the first game 3-2 and the Storm win the second Sunday afternoon 4-1. The Greyhounds currently sit fourth in the West Division, two points behind the Plymouth Whalers. The next match up between these two teams takes place on March 3rd in Sault Ste. Marie.
