OHL Announces Academic Players of the Month

The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Academic Players of the Month for October, 2006.
West Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the West Division is left winger John Kurtz of the Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club. Kurt, 17, a native of Oakville, Ontario, is a Grade 12 student at St. Anne's High School in Windsor.
Midwest Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Midwest Division is defenseman Andrew Shorkey of the Owen Sound Attack Hockey Club. Shorkey, 18, a native of Richmond Hill, Ontario is a Grade 12 student at West Hill Secondary School in Owen Sound.
Central Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the Central Division is defenseman Michael McGurk of the Toronto St. Michael's Majors Hockey Club. McGurk, 17, a native of Hamilton, Ontario is a Grade 11 student at St. Michael's College School in Toronto.
East Division - The OHL Academic Player of the Month for October in the East Division is defenseman Jake Laplante of the Peterborough Petes Hockey Club. Laplante, 17, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, is a Grade 12 student a Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in Peterborough.
Each month, the OHL recognizes a player from each Division who is striving to reach his full potential in his educational program while playing in the Ontario Hockey League.
