Storm Take Series Opener 7-4 over Sixers

San Bernardino, CA- The Lake Elsinore Storm defeated the Inland Empire 66ers 7-4 at San Manuel Stadium on Saturday sending the Sixers to their third consecutive loss. The win was the Storm's season-best fifth straight win and saw Lake Elsinore improve to 7-3 versus Inland Empire this season.

Lake Elsinore (46-47, 14-9) got to Inland Empire starter Alex Klonowski (6-10) with three runs in the third when the Storm got an RBI double from Javier Guerra followed by an RBI triple by Edwin Moreno. It was the first of two three-baggers Moreno had on the evening. Luis Urias added an RBI single to make it 3-0. The 66ers made it 3-1 in the bottom of the second when Angels OF Craig Gentry walked with the bases loaded for the RBI in his final game of his rehab stint with the Sixers.

The Storm made it 5-1 in the fifth when they got an RBI single from Josh VanMeter. The Storm third baseman had four singles, a RBI and a stolen base in the win. VanMeter later scored in the frame on Ty France's RBI single. The Sixers got the runs back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Wade Wass and RBI single from Jared Foster. Michael Gettys tagged a two run homer, his second, in the seventh off Inland Empire (32-61, 9-14) reliever Nate Fury to make it 7-3 in favor of his Storm.

The 66ers did get a solo homer in the ninth from David Fletcher, his second of the season but could muster no more offense. Fletcher had a single to go along with his dinger and extended his hitting streak to ten games. Wass had two hits in the loss for the 66ers. Trey Wingenter earned the win with 2.2 no-hit innings and improved to 2-0 on the season.
