Lancaster JetHawks News Release
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. - Trent Woodward hit a game-tying three-run home run in the seventh inning but the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes rallied to beat the JetHawks, 10-7, on Sunday afternoon at LoanMart Field.
The JetHawks (51-43) rallied for four runs in that seventh inning to tie the game, 7-7. Johnny Sewald tripled home Antonio Nunez for the first run. Ramon Laureano followed with a walk and Woodward blasted his third home run over the right field wall to tie it up.
The Quakes (55-39) called on Adam Bray (1-0) to replace Bubby Rossman after the home run and Bray went on to throw 2.1 perfect innings to finish off the game.
Rancho Cucamonga came back with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Reliever Scott Weathersby (3-5) allowed the first two batters to reach base on a hit and a walk before Jacob Dorris was summoned from the bullpen. Johan Mieses sacrificed the runners up with a bunt for the first out and Dorris struck out Joey Curletta for the second. But Devan Ahart hit a flare that dropped in shallow left field to score both runners and give the Quakes the lead. Dian Toscano followed with a RBI-triple.
Each time the JetHawks scored on Sunday, the Quakes had an answer.
Lancaster scored in the first inning on a Woodward sac-fly before the Quakes put up three runs, two coming home on an Edwin Rios home run.
Bobby Boyd cut the Quakes lead to one in the third inning with a solo home run, his seventh of the season, but Rancho Cucamonga followed with a Michael Ahmed homer to get the run back.
Tim Locastro added two runs with a home run in the fifth inning against starter Brock Dykxhoorn. The right-hander allowed three home runs on the afternoon and gave up six runs on six hits over four-plus innings.
Quakes starter Tommy Bergjans allowed three runs on six hits over 5.2 innings.
The loss brought the JetHawks' seven-game win streak to an end.
The series continues on Monday at LoanMart Field with the third of four games. Josh James (7-2) will start against Felipe Gonzalez. First pitch is 7:05 p.m.
