Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Lake Elsinore Storm scored ten unanswered runs en route to a 12-5 win over the Inland Empire 66ers and completed a four-game sweep of the Sixers at San Manuel Stadium on Tuesday. The loss was the sixth consecutive dropped but Inland Empire while the victory ran Lake Elsinore's win streak to eight games. The 66ers are a combined 7-for-60 with runners in scoring position during their six-game slide including hitting into a triple play in their first RISP situation on Tuesday.
Inland Empire (32-64, 9-17) tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth inning when Zach Houchins tagged Storm starter Thomas Dorminy for a solo homer to left field. It was Houchins' tenth of the season which leads the club. Inland Empire took a 5-2 lead in the fifth when Josh Delph doubled to open the frame. Ayendy Perez was hit by a pitch. Delph stole third and came home on the errant attempt on him. It was Delph's first steal of the year; Perez was credited with his team-best 22nd on the play when he grabbed second. Michael Hermosillo then drilled a RBI triple to left to make it 4-2. Hermosillo had a single, triple and walk in his California League debut. He scored to make it 5-2 on Taylor Ward's sac fly.
Zach Hartman tossed a scoreless sixth in his 66ers' debut but ran into trouble in the seventh as the Storm (49-47, 17-9) scored four against Hartman (0-1) to take the lead without an out being recorded. The big blow in the inning was Edwin Moreno's three-run triple (his fourth triple of the series to go along with two homers) as 11 men batted in the seven-run frame. 19-year-old Cal League batting leader Luis Urias belted an eighth inning two-run homer, his fifth, as part of his three-hit game. The Storm got an unearned run in the top of the ninth to make it 12-5. Ben Paullus was credited with the win with 1.1 IP and improved to 2-1. The Sixers mustered just two hits over the final 4.1 innings of play.
David Fletcher extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a base-hit while Jared Foster has hit safely in all six games he has played for Inland Empire.
