Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The 66ers were in the drivers' seat for most of Sunday night, taking a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning, but a Storm rally late in the game gave Lake Elsinore an 8-5 win in 10 innings.

Sixers starting pitcher Tim Sexton threw 6 2/3 innings in a quality start and allowed just 3 runs on 6 hits, but the bullpen gave up the final 5 runs of the night to give Sexton a no-decision. Zach Schreiber and Jake McCarter (2-1, 3.82) were roughed up by the Storm offense as Lake Elsinore crushed three of their four home runs off the Inland Empire duo.

Sawyer Carroll broke a 5-5 tie in the tenth with a double to left scoring Andy Parrino. James Darnell followed with a two-run shot to push the Storm cushion to three runs.

The 66ers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in Sunday's contest after a Preston Mattingly lead off double in the first inning. Mattingly would score on the very next play, as Elian Herrera's bunt was fielded by third baseman James Darnell and thrown past first base for an error.

The Sixers scored another run in the second as Storm starting pitcher Aaron Breit worked into a bases loaded jam and walked home a run to give Inland Empire a 2-0 lead.

Lake Elsinore would answer with a run of their own in the third, but a Christian Lara two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning put the Sixers up 4-1.

The offense produced another run in the fifth for the 66ers to give them a 5-1 lead, but the seventh inning saw the Storm offense come alive against the Sixers bullpen.

Inland Empire took advantage of three Storm errors, as four of their five runs were unearned.

Breit gave up 5 runs on 7 hits while striking out 5 Sixer hitters, but it was Colt Hynes (2-0, 1.53) that earned the win for Lake Elsinore. Hynes pitched 2 hitless innings for the Storm and set up Bryan Oland to earn his 22nd save of the season.

The 66ers will play game six of a seven game homestand Monday night at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Chris Withrow (5-6, 4.90) takes on Lake Elsinore and RHP Anthony Bass (0-0, 0.00). It's a Kids Eat Free Monday at the ballpark, where fans will get a voucher for a FREE hot dog, soda, and bag of chips for every children's ticket (12 & under) purchased. For tickets, visit www.66ers.com or stop by the 66ers box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino. For more information, give the Sixers a call at (909) 888-9922.
