
Quakes Blast Mavs 10-3

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- In the first of a three game series at home against High Desert, the Mavericks jumped out to an early lead against the Quakes. After Tyson Gillies led off with a single, Edilio Colina followed with another single, putting runners on the corners. Jamie McOwen then came up with a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Gillies to give the Mavs a 1-0 lead.
The Quakes offense exploded in the bottom of the first inning against Nathan Adcock. Clay Fuller led off with a single and Andrew Romine and Efren Navarro followed with walks to load the bases. Julio Perez then hit a sacrifice fly to right to score Fuller tying the game 1-1. Jay Brossman followed with a two-run double to make the score 3-1. After back to back walks by Hector Estrella and Chris Rosenbaum, Jake Rife singled to right to make the score 4-1 and keep the bases loaded. Alberto Rosario then grounded a ball to short that was booted allowing another run to score and the bases were still full. Clay Fuller was the next batter and he hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Rosenbaum and cap the scoring at six runs, with the Quakes leading 6-1.
The Mavericks got back on the scoreboard in the 3rd as Joe Dunigan delivered a sacrifice fly to left field score Tyson Gillies, who had singled to lead off the inning, making the score 6-2.
The Quakes did not score again until the 5th inning as Efren Navarro singled to lead off the inning and with one out Jay Brossman drew a walk. A wild pitch advanced both runners 90 feet before Hector Estrella singled up the middle to score Navarro. With runners on the corners, Chris Rosenbaum came up with an RBI groundout to score Brossman and Jake Rife followed with an RBI single to center to score Estrella, swelling the lead to 9-2.
Mike Kenney lasted five innings in just his second professional start, allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out three. Taylor Wilding came in for the 6th and gave up a lead off home run to Joe Dunigan to make the score 9-3. Wilding would last three innings allowing just the one run and one hit.
The Quakes added a run in the bottom of the 7th as Julio Perez led off with a double, went to third on a groundout and scored on a Hector Estrella RBI single to lead 10-3.
The Quakes will continue their series against High Desert on Monday. Right-hander Ryan Brasier will start for the Quakes against right-hander Jake Wild for the Mavericks. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
