Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - While the 66ers were able to come back and win the first three games of the series against the Quakes, that wasn't the case Saturday night as Inland Empire fell behind early again and ultimately lost the final game of the series 7-5.

Rancho Cucamonga quickly jumped out in front against Thomas Melgarejo in the first on RBI hits from Andrew Romine and Efren Navarro for a 2-0 lead. The Quakes tacked on single runs in both the second and third to give themselves a 4-1 lead.

In the home half of the third, the Sixers tied the game at four on an RBI single by Pedro Baez, a bases loaded walk to Scott Van Slyke, and a wild pitch by Alexander Torres that scored Baez from third.

However, the Sixers heroics were for naught as Romine drove in two more runs on a single to center in the fourth with P.J. Phillips and newly promoted Jake Rife scoring from second and third.

Rife, just added to take the roster spot of Jeremy Moore who was brought up to the Angels' AA affiliate in Arkansas, went 3-for-3 and was hit by a pitch in his Cal League debut.

Inland Empire added another run in the fifth to pull within a run, but the Quakes picked up an insurance run in the eighth before handing the ball off to Ysmael Carmona for his 15th save of the year.

Rehabbing Dodgers reliever Hong-Chih Kuo made an appearance for the 66ers, pitching a scoreless sixth, giving up 2 hits and striking out 1.

Alexander Torres (8-3, 3.12) got the win, pitching 5 innings in which he allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and 5 walks, while striking out 5.

Blake Brannon (0-1, 4.08) surrendered 2 runs on 3 hits while fanning 2 over 2 2/3 innings of relief to get tagged with the loss.

The 66ers continue their homestand with the start of a three-game set with the Lake Elsinore Storm Sunday at Arrowhead Credit Union Park starting at 6:05 p.m. Sunday is Family Day, with up to 5 Bullpen Box seats for just $10. It is also Go Green Day, the first 1,500 fans receive a Dodgers BBQ apron courtesy of Goodwill Computer Recycling. The Sixers will trot out RHP Tim Sexton (5-9, 3.26), while the Storm sends RHP Aaron Breit (0-4, 3.07) to the mound. The game will start at 6:05 p.m., and fans can get tickets at the 66ers' box office at 280 South E Street in San Bernardino or by visiting www.66ers.com.
