Storm Players Make Pledge, Benefit Safety in Hockey

KEARNEY, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League has announced that they will be supporting the Jack Jablonski Fund.

Jack Jablonski is a sophomore at Benilde St. Margaret's High School in Minnesota. On December 30, 2011 he was chasing a puck during a game and was severely injured when a check from behind sent him head first into the boards. Jablonksi suffered two broken vertebra and a severed spinal cord leaving him paralyzed.

Jablonksi grew up playing hockey in the Minneapolis (Storm) Hockey Association. From his tragic incident he has created Jack's Pledge, a directive to eliminate dangerous plays in the sport by enhancing safety in the game of hockey. A website, www.jackspledge.com has been set up to promote this program and raise awareness.

All members of the Tri-City Storm will be taking this pledge and the organization will be making a donation to the cause. For the Storm's game against the Fargo Force game on Saturday, January 14, a portion of every 13th ticket sold will be donated in honor of Jabonski's Rule 13. This rule elevates the standards of teaching, supporting and enforcing Jack's way of playing hockey.

"Your heart goes out to the player, and his family when something like this happens," said Storm GM/Head Coach Josh Hauge. "This is our way of showing support for them and helping to spread his message. The hockey community is a tight-knit group, and we recognize the importance of Jack's Pledge across all levels of the game."
