Inland Empire 66ers News Release

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Tim Sexton threw another gem for the 66ers, but the theme of low run support for Sexton continued as the Storm came away with a 3-1 victory Saturday night.

Sexton (1-8, 3.15) got tabbed with the loss for Inland Empire in 6 innings pitched, allowing 6 hits and 2 runs while tying a career high with 8 strikeouts in his 9th start of the season. Without the 16 runs of support Sexton got in his first start of the season, he has only received an average of 2.25 runs per game of support in his 8 other starts.

The Storm did not collect their first hit off of Sexton until the fourth inning when Beamer Weems lined a single to right. Lake Elsinore took the lead when Keoni Ruth slapped an RBI single to center field, scoring Weems. Back-to-back doubles in the fifth, the second by Ali Solis plated the Storm's second run.

The Sixers' lone run came on an infield single by Alex Garabedian in the seventh inning.

Jeremy Hefner (6-6, 4.16) earned the victory for Lake Elsinore. Hefner pitched 6 2/3 innings while allowing just 1 run to Inland Empire. Hefner held the 66ers' bats silent Saturday night with 8 strikeouts, 4 of which came with runners on base. The Sixers offensive struggles also included stranding 4 runners on 3rd base, while going 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

The Storm bullpen was also impressive in the victory, giving up just 2 hits in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Bryan Oland earned save number 17 for the Storm, closing the door on an Inland Empire rally in the 9th.

Inland Empire (27-35) will finish its series with Lake Elsinore Storm (35-27) on a Sunday day game at 1:05 p.m. with Alberto Bastardo taking the mound for the Sixers. It's a Sunday Family Fun Day, where fans can purchase up to 5 tickets in the Bullpen Box for only $10. All kids 12 and under can participate in an on-field clinic with 66ers players from 11 a.m.- noon. Make sure to get your little leaguer to the field by 10:45 a.m. to participate.
