Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes and Blaze got off to a similar start as Saturday night's game, going scoreless for the first four innings. The difference being in Sunday's game was that the Quakes jumped out in front first.
After Blaze starter Zach Phillips retired the first 12 batters he faced in order, Efren Navarro led off the 5th inning by reaching on an error. Clay Fuller sacrificed him to second base and Jeremy Moore hit a slow roller to second that went through the legs of the second baseman, allowing Navarro to score, and give Rancho a 1-0 lead without getting a hit. Rancho didn't collect their first hit until the 6th when Andrew Romine singled up the middle.
All-Star left hander Alexander Torres was brilliant for the Quakes as he allowed three hits in the first two innings of the game, but only one after that. He pitched a career high eight innings while striking out eight, and retired 20 of the last 21 batters he faced.
The Quakes added a run in the bottom of the 8th as PJ Phillips led off with a walk, went to second on a passed ball and to third on wild pitch. With one out, Rian Kiniry singled to right to give Rancho a much needed insurance run and grab a 2-0 lead.
Ysmael Carmona pitched a three up and three down 9th with two strikeouts to preserve the 2-0 win for Torres and the Quakes.
The Quakes will head to High Desert for the first of a three game series with the Mavericks Monday with right hander Jeremy Thorne on the mound against right hander Nathan Adcock. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
