Inland Empire 66ers News Release
SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - After being down early, the 66ers stormed back to take the final game of the series against the Storm, 8-4, on Sunday afternoon. Alberto Bastardo earned his team leading sixth win of the season for Inland Empire.
After falling behind 4-0, the 66ers exploded for six runs in the second (five earned) off Storm starter Jeremy McBryde(6-2, 3.53). In the inning four different Sixers drove in at least an RBI with Elian Herrera driving in two and Trayvon Robinson, Scott Van Slyke, and Justin Fuller each knocking in one.
Steven Caseres added a run in the bottom of the third with a leadoff blast over the wall in right for his eight on the season. The homer tied Inland Empire's team home run total with that of all last season. Caseres finished the game 2-for-3, with two singles to accompany the home run.
The storm jumped on Bastardo early, scoring all four of their runs in the first two innings. After Brad Chalk and Beamer Weems both reached safely, Keoni Ruth hit a infield single to short to drive in Chalk. One batter later, Felix Carrasco drove in two more on a smash double to left field.
In the second inning, with Luis Martinez and Chalk on first and second, Weems bunted them over and Forsythe walked to load the bases. Ruth drove in his second run of the day with a hard hit single to left, giving Lake Elsinore a 4-0 lead.
Bastardo (6-2, 3.69), named a California League All-Star earlier in the week, fought back to earn the win, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits and 3 walks while striking out 6 in 5 innings.
Mario Alvarez pitched four scoreless innings for the Sixers to earn the save, allowing just three hits the rest of the way and walking none.
McBryde, also named an All-Star this week, surrendered a season-high 8 runs (7 earned) to the 66ers in 5 1/3 innings for the loss, in which he allowed 9 hits and 1 walk while fanning 9.
Inland Empire (28-35) now hits the road for a three-game set in Lancaster against the JetHawks. The 66ers return to Arrowhead Credit Union Park on Thursday, June 18 to open a four-game weekend series with the High Desert Mavericks. The opening game of that series will be Thirsty Thursday with $1 beers and sodas.
