Lake Elsinore Storm News Release

It wasn't quite the dozen that they put on the board in the previous day but the Storm continued to rain down runs on the Stockton Ports this week. However, Lake Elsinore would combine for more hits than the previous day and have a larger margin of victory as well.

It started out as well as possible with the Padres' 4th-ranked prospect, Samuel Zavala, launching a leadoff home run off of his own headshot on the video board. Ethan Salas would walk in his first at bat, Graham Pauley would follow with a double, and Albert Fabian would hit a groundout just hard enough to bring Salas home. Kai Murphy would then shoot a single to the shortstop who was unable to make the play, allowing another run to score.

From up 3-0, the Storm never looked back and Manuel Castro, the night's starter, helped ensure that. He would go 4.2 innings, allowing just two earned runs, and striking out nine total batters. Meanwhile, Lake Elsinore continued the hit parade. They scored once more in the second inning after Zavala doubled off the top of the Ad Monster in right field and Salas brought him home on a well-struck single. The fourth and third-ranked prospects, respectively, combined for five total hits, four RBIs, four runs, and two walks. The third batter in the lineup, Graham Pauley, would also accrue two hits including his second triple in as many days.

The score would remain 4-2 until the seventh inning. Pauley would bring two men home on a missed catch error from the Ports' first baseman. In the 8th, they would rack up five total runs including consecutive triples from Pauley and Albert Fabian. Will Geerdes would close the game out and the Storm now have two consecutive wins with just seven games remaining and still 3.5 games back of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes.
