
Storm Forward Mark Estapa Announces Commitment to Michigan

Kearney, NE. - Tri-City Storm forward Mark Estapa has announced a commitment to play college hockey at the University of Michigan. Estapa was selected 54th overall by Tri-City in the 2018 USHL Phase I draft and is currently in his first season with the Storm. He recorded his 1st career point with the team with an assist in Tri-City's 4-1 defeat of Sioux Falls on Thursday. Estapa has skated in all nine of the Storm's regular season games this season.
Mark Estapa, 17, of St. Clair, Michigan made his USHL debut with Tri-City on November 9th, 2018 in a 1-0 road win over the Omaha Lancers. Estapa was among Tri-City's scoring leaders during the 2019-2020 preseason with two goals and two assists in five games played. Estapa has skated in ten career regular season games with Tri-City and recorded his first career point during Tri-City's 4-1 home win over Sioux Falls on October 10th. Estapa competed for Team USA at the prestigious 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup in August 5th-10th in Pieà ¡à ¥any, Slovakia and Bà â¢eclav, Czech Republic. Prior to joining the Storm, Estapa was a standout for the Little Caesars youth program in Detroit, MI. He netted over fifty combined goals in his last two seasons with the program. During the 2018-2019 season, Estapa scored twenty-six goals and recorded twenty-nine assists in sixty-six games played. Little Caesars won the 2019 Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) State Championship.

Estapa is set to become the sixth Storm player to play for the University of Michigan. Alumni of the Storm program who have played college hockey for the Wolverines include; Noah Ruden, Cutler Martin, Hayden Lavigne, Jack Summers, and Keaton Pehrson. The Michigan program has won nine national championships, most recently in 1998. The Wolverines have reached the Frozen Four twenty-five times. The Wolverines swept Lake Superior State last weekend to improve to 2-1-1 in the 2019-2020 regular season.
