Storm Fall to Stampede 7-3

Sioux Falls, SD - The Tri-Storm fell to the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 3-3 Tuesday night at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Nick Portz, Cole McWard, Mitchell Miller scored goals in the loss.

Nick Portz got the Storm on the board just over five minutes into the 1st period. Portz scored his 13th goal of the season at 5:08 of the period with Mitchell Miller and Colby Ambrosio recording assists on the goal. Miller's assist was his 18th assist of the 2019-2020 regular season, and Ambrosio's assist was also his 18th of the year. Tri-City's lead disappeared two minutes later with Raimonds Vitolins netting his 3rd goal of the year. With less than three minutes to play in the period, Cameron Boudreau gave Sioux Falls the lead. Boudreau's 1st goal of the year was scored at 17:56 of the 1st period. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 16-8 in the 1st period but trailed 2-1 entering the 2nd.

Jakub Lewandowski netted his 8th goal of the year at 1:45 of the 2nd period to increase the Stampede's lead to two goals. With sixteen seconds left to go in the period, Ryan Sullivan scored his 14th goal of the year to give Sioux Falls a 4-1 lead. Tri-City outshot Sioux Falls 8-3 in the 2nd period and trailed 4-1 entering the 3rd period.

Raimonds Vitolins netted his 4th goal of the year at 3:21 of the 3rd period to give Sioux Falls a 5-1 lead. Shortly after, at 5:08 of the 3rd period, Jakub Lewandowski scored his 9th goal of the year to increase the Stampede lead to five goals. Cole McWard netted his 8th goal of the year at 6:11 of the 3rd period to put Tri-City on the board for the 2nd time in the game. McWard's goal was assisted by Mitchell Miller. At 7:27 of the 3rd period, Will Dineen scored his 3rd goal of the year to give Sioux Falls a 7-2 lead. Mitchell Miller scored his 6th goal of the year at 14:18 of the 3rd period to bring Tri-City's deficit to four goals. Miller's goal was assisted by Benji Eckerle, and Cole McWard. Tri-City fell by a final score of 7-3. The Storm outshot the Stampede 32-21.

The Storm now enter a break in the schedule, and do not play again until Saturday, February 15th, in a road matchup against the Madison Capitols. Tri-City has now completed forty of sixty-two regular season games and leaves Sioux Falls as the 2nd place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Tri-City returns home from its active four game road trip on Friday, February 21st in a matchup against the Omaha Lancers. Friday's February 21st's home game promotion is "Taste of Nebraska", with Tri-City's "Miracle on Ice Night" the following night.
