Preview: Storm Set for Battle with Stampede

Sioux Falls, SD. - The Tri-City Storm travel to the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota tonight for a midweek matchup against the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede. Tonight's game is the opening game of a seven-game schedule in the month of February for the Storm. Tri-City is idle this weekend, and will not play another game until Saturday, February 15th in a road matchup against the Madison Capitols. Tri-City carries a three-game winning streak into tonight's matchup against Sioux Falls. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.

Tri-City (20-14-3-2) plays its 40th game of the regular season tonight at the site of its final playoff game of last season. Tonight will mark the first time that the Storm has played a game at the Denny Sanford Premier Center following a season ending 3-2 loss on May 3rd, 2019 in Game #3 of the 2019 Western Conference Semifinal. In its lone game of the weekend on Friday night, Tri-City defeated Sioux City 4-2 at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA. The Storm got goals in the game from Jack Lagerstrom, Matthew Knies, Cole McWard, and Colby Ambrosio in the win. Todd Scott recorded his fifth win in six career starts with the Storm. Tri-City enters tonight's game as the 2nd place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Scoring leaders for Tri-City through the first thirty-nine games of the 2019-2020 regular season include; Colby Ambrosio (22), Benji Eckerle (14), Nick Portz (12), Matthew Knies (11), Cole McWard (7), Matthew Knies (5), and Nick Capone (5). The Storm return home on Friday, February 21st in a matchup against in state rival Omaha.

Sioux Falls (17-16-3-0) enters tonight's game as the 7th place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Despite being near the bottom of the conference standings, the Stampede have won five consecutive games and eight of its last ten. In its last games, Sioux Falls swept conference-leading Waterloo in back to back home games. Since beginning the 2020 calendar year, the Stampede have won five of six games played at the Denny Sanford Premier Center. Tonight's game is the third game of a six game regular season series between the Stampede and Storm. Each team recorded a win at the Viaero Center in October in the opening two games of the season series. Scoring leaders for the Stampede through the first thirty-five games of the regular season include; Ryan Sullivan (13), Jared Westcott (12), Brian Carrabes (8), Brenden Olson (8), and Jakub Lewandowski. After hosting the Storm tonight, Sioux Falls will travel to the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, IA for back to back road games against the Sioux City Musketeers this weekend.
