Storm ends Season Series with Win in Ninth

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - James Darnell drilled a pitch from Marcel Prado to the right field wall in the ninth inning, scoring Brad Chalk with winning run as the Storm took the final meeting of the season with a 5-4 win over the 66ers Thursday night.

66ers reliever Jake McCarter began the ninth by yielding a single to Brad Chalk. After a sacrifice bunt, Sawyer Carroll was intentionally walked. With Prado summoned from the bullpen, Darnell hit the first pitch from Prado over Scott Van Slyke's head in right to score Chalk for a walk-off win.

The 66ers (48-57) took the lead in the first inning when Steve Caseres knocked in Joe Becker with a two-out single off Storm starter Anthony Bass.

Tied 1-1 in the third, Becker led off with another walk. Trayvon Robinson singled Becker to third before he was thrown out at home trying to score on Van Slyke's fly ball to left. After Caseres walked, Preston Mattingly reached on a costly error to load the bases.

Craig Italiano relieved Bass on the mound and Jaime Ortiz smoked a pitch from the right-hander to the left field wall, clearing the bases to give Inland Empire a 4-1 lead.

66ers starter Chris Withrow allowed a run on four hits in three innings before Kenley Jansen made his professional debut on the mound. The converted catcher struck out Felix Carrasco in a scoreless fourth inning for a successful pitching debut.

With two on for the Storm in the fifth, Sawyer Carroll launched a soaring three-run home run over the big wall in right off Miguel Sanfler to tie the game at four.

Trayvon Robinson was a force on the bases, stealing five bases to set a career-high. The five stolen bases are the most by an individual 66er since at least 2001. Robinson went 3-for-4 and stole both second and third base in the third and the fifth inning after swiping second base in the third. The center fielder leads the league with 38 thefts on the season.

The 66ers begin a six-game homestand when they host the Lancaster JetHawks Friday at 7:05 p.m. RHP Mario Alvarez (2-4, 5.52) gets the start for the 66ers while RHP Leandro Cespedes (6-6, 4.98) takes the hill for the JetHawks.
