Quakes Outlast Modesto in 11

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- After scoring five first inning runs on Wednesday, the Modesto Nuts had some early action against the Quakes on Thursday. With two outs against starter Ryan Brasier Jay Cox doubled to left and scored on Scott Beerer's RBI single to take a 1-0 lead.

Modesto came back with three more runs in the 4th inning as Jason Van Kooten blasted a solo home run and Matt Repec added a two-run shot to give the Nuts a 4-0 lead.

The Nuts got to Brasier again in the 5th with two outs as Scott Beerer singled and Jeff Cunningham clubbed a two-run homer to give Modesto a 6-0 advantage.

The Quakes finally got on the scoreboard in the 6th as Brian Walker blasted a solo home run, his 5th, to make the score 6-1. Nuts starter Christian Friedrich lasted six innings and struck out 11 batters.

Rancho got another run in the 7th as Jay Brossman connected on a solo home run to make the score 6-2.

The Quakes bats woke up in the bottom of the 8th As Andrew Romine led off with a single and scored on an RBI double by Hector Estrella to cut the deficit to 6-3. Efren Navarro then came up and singled to right to score Estrella to make it 6-4. Jeremy Moore then reached first on an error and Navarro made it to second. With one out, PJ Phillips drew a walk to load the bases. On the first pitch to Clay Fuller, pitcher Ching-Lung Lo hit him in the lower leg to force in a run making it 6-5. After a failed squeeze attempt with Carlos Colmenares had Moore out at the plate for the second out, Brian Walker came up against reliever Austin Chambliss and drew a walk to tie the game 6-6.

Rancho's bullpen was outstanding, keeping the Quakes in the game by getting scoreless innings from Ysmael Carmona, Kevin Nabors, Taylor Wilding, Michael Kohn and Eddie McKiernan to keep the game tied 6-6 into the 11th.

Brian Walker led off the bottom of the 11th inning with a double down the left field line to set the Quakes up. After Andrew Romine popped up a bunt attempt for the first out, Hector Estrella came up and delivered the game winning RBI single to walk off with the 7-6 win.

The Quakes will head north to San Jose for the first of a weekend series starting Friday. Left hander Jayson Miller will start for the Quakes against left hander Paul Oseguera for the Giants. Game time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
