Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY - The United States Hockey League held its annual draft today with twelve teams participating, including Nebraska's Tri-City Storm. The Storm claimed 16 players in this year's draft who were added to the protected list to give them a total of 30 skaters. All players on the protected list will go through try out camp with a chance to make the final roster for 2008-09.
Assistant coach Tom Rudrud was very pleased with this year's draft. Rudrud stated, "Overall, we're excited about the way the draft turned out. Defense was a position we needed to fill and we feel very happy with the players we selected."
The Storm selected six defenseman, nine forwards and one goalie. Its first round pick, number three overall, was spent on defenseman Sean Escobedo (es-co-BAY-do). Escobedo last played with the Apple Core junior team in New York. Other selections included two players who suited up for the Storm in 2007-08 who were initially not on the protected list: Anthony DeCenzo and Jordan VanGilder.
