YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Tri-City Storm (5-1-1, 11 pts) defeated the Youngstown Phantoms (2-4-1, 5 pts) 3-1 on Saturday night to complete the weekend sweep. The Storm was led by rookie goalie Steven Bolton, who made 31 saves on 32 shots in his winning debut for Tri-City.
The Storm started the scoring 5:47 into the first period on the power play, as Maxwell Tardy fired in a rebound shot that was assisted by Brett Mohler and Jaden Schwartz.
However, the Phantoms would score late in the first period to tie the game at 1-1, as Adam Berkle scored on Bolton with 3:44 left in the period on the breakaway opportunity.
The second period belonged to the Storm, as Josh Berge setup Radoslav Illo in the left circle for the game-winning goal just 20 seconds into the period. With the goal, Illo scored his team-high sixth of the season.
Seven minutes later, Brett Mohler scored his third goal of the weekend as Jaden Schwartz made an outstanding pass from the slot to the left side of the net that gave the Storm a 3-1 lead and the final score. Mohler scored three goals and had two assists over the weekend against the Phantoms.
Schwartz ended the week with two goals, five assists and seven points in three games. Currently, Schwartz is on a six-game point streak, which surpasses teammate Anthony DeCenzo's five-game point streak to start the season. Also, Schwartz leads the team in scoring with 11 points on the season.
The Storm on the power play was 1-5, while Youngstown was 0-2 with the man-advantage.
Storm goalie Bolton (1-0-0) made 14 saves on 14 shots in the third period to earn his first win of the season. Jordan Tibbett (1-3-0) made 26 saves on 29 shots receiving the loss.
The Storm will play the Lincoln Stars on October 31st at the Ice Box. Tri-City will try to extend their winning-streak to four games before coming home November 3rd to host the Stars in a home-and-home series.
