Storm Complete Phase I of 2021 USHL Draft

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm completed Phase I of the 2021 USHL Draft on Wednesday by making seven selections in the ten-round draft. The Storm selected five forwards, two defensemen, and no goaltenders. The Phase I Draft, formerly known as the "Futures Draft", is open to 2005 birth year players only. Phase II of the is open to players of all ages eligible to play junior hockey and who are not currently protected by another USHL team. Teams will fill their roster to a total of forty-five players by the end of the Phase II Draft tomorrow. All veteran roster players from the 2020-2021 season are automatically protected by their current team, separate from the list of forty-five players. In November, Tri-City signed defenseman Andrew Strathmann to a tender agreement for the 2021-2022 season. The signing replaced the Storm's 1st Round pick in Wednesday's Phase I Draft. Last week, Tri-City signed forward Tanner Adams to a tender agreement for the 2021-2022 season. The signing replaced the Storm's 2nd Round pick in Wednesday's Phase I Draft. The USHL tender process allows each team to tender up to two players prior to the USHL Phase I Draft in place of its 1st Round and 2nd Round draft picks.

Andrew Strathmann, 16, of Beach Park, Illinois appeared in sixty games during the 2020-2021 regular season with the Chicago Young Americans (CYA) youth organization and scored twenty-two goals. Strathmann also provided the team with thirty-four assists for fifty-six total points. Strathmann is 6'1'', 165 lbs.

Tanner Adams, 15, of Northport, New York appeared in twenty-nine games during the 2020-2021 regular season for the Mount St. Charles Academy in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. He scored nineteen goals and provided the team with twenty-nine assists for forty-eight total points. Adams previously announced a commitment to play college hockey at Providence College. Adams is 5'9'', 161 lbs.

Tri-City's first selection in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft was forward Cameron Briere of Oakville, Ontario. The Storm selected Briere 24th Overall in the 2nd Round of the draft after completing a transaction with the Chicago Steel to move up the draft board. Briere skated in sixty-two games during the 2020-2021 season for the Nashville Jr. Predators AAA organization. He netted twenty-seven goals and recorded twenty-one assists last season. Briere is 5'10'', 146 lbs, and uncommitted.

The Storm's next selection in Wednesday's draft was forward Ryan Smith of Pendleton, New York. Smith, 15, Forward, skated in eleven games last season for the Buffalo Jr. Sabres. Smith scored four goals and recorded six assists. He is 5'9'', 161 lbs, and uncommitted. Tri-City selected Smith 49th Overall in the 4th Round of the Phase I draft.

Tri-City's third selection of the 2021 Phase I Draft was forward Christian Kim of Torrance, California. Kim, 16, Forward, appeared in fifty-nine games during the 2020-2021 season with the Anaheim Jr. Ducks AAA organization. Kim scored twenty-two goals and recorded forty-one assists. He also skated for Lutheran High School in Orange, California last season. Kim also previously skated for the Belle Tire youth organization in Detroit, Michigan. Kim is 5'7'', 150 lbs, and uncommitted.

Philippe Blais-Savoie was the first defenseman selected by the Storm in Wednesday's Phase I Draft. Tri-City drafted Blais-Savoie 70th overall in the 5th Round of the Phase I Draft. Blais-Savoie, 15, Defenseman, of San Jose, California, appeared in fourteen games this season with San Jose Jr. Sharks AAA organization. He scored eight goals and recorded three assists. Blais-Savoie skated in thirty-five games with the Jr. Sharks 14U team during the 2019-2020 season and scored twelve goals. He also recorded eleven assists for the Jr. Sharks offense. Blais-Savoie is 5'10'', 150 lbs, and uncommitted.

Aidan Willis was Tri-City's next selection in the Phase I Draft and was picked 85th overall in the 6th Round. Willis, 16, Forward, of Farmington, Minnesota appeared in twenty-two games during the 2020-2021 season for Lakeville South Highschool in Lakeville, Minnesota. Willis scored four goals and recorded twenty assists for twenty-four total points. He also appeared in twenty games with the Blue Army 15U AAA organization. Willis netted fourteen goals and recorded twenty-one assists for thirty-five total points. He is 5'11'', 176 lbs and uncommitted.

Ryan Koering was the second and final defenseman selected by Tri-City in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft. Koering, 16, Defenseman, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota skated in twenty-four games last season for Eden Prairie High School. Koering scored one goal and recorded seven assists for eight total points. He skated for the Blue Army 14U AAA organization during the 2019-2020 season. Koering is 6'0'', 146 lbs, and uncommitted.

Tri-City's final selection in Wednesday's Phase I Draft was Brenden Fields. Fields, 16, Forward, of Ladera Ranch, California, skated in sixty games during the 2020-2021 season for the Chicago Young Americans (CYA) AAA organization in Palatine, Illinois. Fields scored twenty-seven goals and recorded thirty-three assists for sixty total points. Fields also previously skated for the Capistrano United Coyotes high school and the Los Angeles Jr. Kings AAA organizations in California.
