Rookie Camp this weekend

There will be plenty of new faces in Storm City this weekend as the Storm host their annual Rookie camp at the Sleeman Centre. Draft picks from the most recent 2013 OHL Priority Selection will be on hand to meet Storm management and staff as well as undergo fitness testing.

The picks will arrive at the Sleeman Centre at 10:00am with fitness testing commencing at 11:30am. Since there will be no on ice component, the testing is not open to the public.

Garlent and Dickison Advance to Quarter-finals

Team Canada U18's including Storm forwards Hunter Garlent (pictured) and Jason Dickinson finished the preliminary round in first thanks to a 6-0 win over Sweden on Tuesday morning.

The Canadians finished the round robin with a perfect 4-0 record outscoring their opposition 23-3. The Swedes were undefeated heading into the game and will settle for second and a quarterfinal meeting with Team USA on Thursday one year after the two nations faced off in the Gold Medal game.

Dickinson missed Tuesday's game with a reported lower body injury and is listed as day-to-day with the quarterfinals looming. Garlent picked up his first point of the tournament versus Sweden, an assist on Zach Nastasiuk of the Owen Sound Attack's second period goal.

Canada will take on the Czech Republic, who finished fourth in Group A on Thursday morning live on TSN at 8 am.

2013 Hockey Camp Details

The Storm will be holding their annual Skills Development hockey camp this summer from Monday August 19th to Friday August 23rd at the Sleeman Centre. Junior and senior players will take part in half day sessions with the juniors beginning at 8:30am and the seniors at 1:00pm.

The Skills Development Camp will again include 3 hours of on-ice instruction directed by Storm coaching staff and a minimum of 4 current Storm players per session.

The program will include skating dynamics, individual and team skill development and two instructional scrimmages per day. Goalies will receive specialized training during the first 30 minutes of each session, as well as ongoing instruction during the remaining 2 and ½ hours of on-ice training. The school is open to players 8 to 10 years of age (mornings), and players 11 to 13 years of age (afternoons).

Each group is limited to 30 skaters and 4 goalies.

The cost is $270 per player and $210 per goaltender

Five Storm picks on Gold C up rosters

Storm fans that are eager to watch the team's newest picks in action against other top 1997 born players can attend the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup at Sportsworld Arena in Kitchener taking place May 9 - 12.

The U16 OHL Gold Cup is an annual event created to feature Ontario's top Under-16 talent. This event will not only showcase Ontario's talent, but is an evaluation and selection process for the Team Ontario. The top 68 players from the U16 OHL Gold Cup will attend the Under-17 Team Ontario Camp where the Team Ontario Staff will select 22 players to represent Ontario at the World Under-17 Challenge held annually in December. With eight teams and 160 players representing the ALLIANCE, GTHL, HNO, NOHA, ODHA and OMHA, the future of Canadian hockey is on display during the 20 games of the OHL Gold Cup.

Five of the Storm's 13 Ontario born picks from the recent OHL Priority Selection will participate in the four day event in May.

Team OMHA (Black) will feature first round pick Garrett McFadden and Tyler Boston (pictured) who was chosen in the fourth by Guelph.

Also taking part in the event will be third round selection Adam Craievich (Team OMHA White), Noah Carroll (fourth round - Team Alliance Grey) and Scott Villeneuve (sixth round - Team NOHA Green).

Rosters for the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup were announced on Tuesday at a press conference at the Holiday Inn Kitchener-Waterloo.

The 4-day event taking place May 9 - 12, 2013 at the Sportsworld Arena in Kitchener will feature 8 teams stacked with the top 160 Under-16 players in Ontario (see rosters below).

David Branch, Commissioner of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Wayne Salatino, Chairman of the Board for the Hockey Development Centre of Ontario (HDCO) and Phillip McKee, Executive Director of the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF) took questions from the media along with a panel of guests, which included players who will be participating in the 2013 U16 OHL Gold Cup event including Travis Konecny, Dylan Strome, and Jacob Cascagnette.

"With the players now being named, you can sense the anticipation for the event to begin," said Phillip McKee. "We are expecting fast pace, great hockey at the Gold Cup and I'm confident the players who we just named will more than deliver that."

In addition to the fast pace hockey, on Thursday May 9th from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, The Bauer Experience will be making a tour stop where participants of the event and the public can hit the ice and try the latest Bauer skates, sticks, gloves and helmets for free. Bauer experts will help find the gear to elevate your game.
