Weekend Wrap Up

The Storm had a light weekend schedule this past weekend as they traveled north to take on the Sault Saint Marie Greyhounds on Friday and Sudbury on on Sunday.

On Friday, the Storm faced off against Sault Saint Marie in what proved to be an exciting match up. After a rough first period that saw the Greyhound come out on top, the Storm rallied in the 2nd and 3rd period to overpower the Greyhounds beating them 6-3.

Saturday, the Storm traveled to Sudbury to take on the Wolves.The first period proved to be frustrating for both teams as they racked up penalty minutes and the game was tied at 1 at the end of the first. The Storm would come out strong in the following periods, defeating the Wolves by a score of 4-2.

On Tuesday is Kitchener the Storm had a slow start and couldn't hold off the intensity of the Rangers as Kitchener jumped out to a two goal lead with less then five minutes into the game. The Storm never really recovered. Trailing the Rangers 5-1 in the third, they scored three consecutive goals, but it was too little too late as the Rangers would get an empty netter for the 6-4 victory.

Tanner Richard is the Hy-Grade Steel Roofing Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Tanner Richard is the Hy-Grade Steel Roofing Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, March 3rd.

Richard picked up four assists in the Storm's two victories this past weekend. On Friday night in Sault Ste. Marie, the Tampa Bay Lightning prospect was named first star assisting on three of the six Storm goals including the game winner and Leslie's insurance goal. On Sunday afternoon in Sudbury, Richard set up Brock McGinn for the first goal of the game and McGinn's 26th of the year. The Storm defeated the Wolves 4-2. Richard was a +3 on the weekend.

Currently tied with Scott Kosmachuk for first in points with 57, Richard leads all Storm players in assists with 49 (9th in the league) and is tied for second on the team in plus/minus with a +18 rating.

Next up, the Storm play an important Western Conference match up against the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday night at the Aud before playing a couple on home ice this weekend. Friday night the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds visit the Sleeman Centre at 7:30pm before the Saginaw Spirit come to town on Saturday for a 7:00pm start. The Storm then head out to Sarnia on Sunday afternoon to take on the Sting for a 2:05pm puck drop.

Storm Forecast

The Storm have a busy week ahead of them as they continue to battle for home ice advantage in the Western Conference standings. They play an important Western Conference match up against the Kitchener Rangers on Tuesday night at the Aud before playing a couple on home ice this weekend. Friday night the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds visit the Sleeman Centre at 7:30pm before the Saginaw Spirit come to town on Saturday for a 7:00pm start. The Storm then head out to Sarnia on Sunday afternoon to take on the Sting for a 2:05pm puck drop.

Colorectal Cancer Night

In support of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program and the Guelph Storm have teamed up to urge Ontarians to get screened for colorectal cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death and the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in Ontario.

On March 8th when the Guelph Storm host the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, the Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program will have a booth set up in the concourse. Be sure to check out the ColonCancerCheck display table for more information.

Warm-up Jersey Auction

Buy a one-of-a-kind Guelph Storm RBC Play Hockey Warm-Up jersey. All net proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

The online Jersey Auction is underway and ends on March 11th. Each winner will receive the jersey in an on-ice presentation following the Storm's Fan Appreciation Night game on Friday, March 15th versus Connor McDavid and the Erie Otters.
