Guelph Storm News Release

The Kingston Frontenacs got a taste of Friday Night Hockey in Storm City this past weekend. The Frontenacs looked to be off to a good start with a goal just 1:37 into the game. They added another on the powerplay at 9:45. The Storm silenced any Kingston fans by scoring 4 goals in the first period. Zack Mitchell started the scoring spree just 1:14 after Kingston's second goal. Hunter Garlent scored his 13th, followed by Scott Kosmachuk's 28th at 18:27. Mitchell notched his second of the night with one minute to go in the period. Andrey Pedan carried the momentum of the first period through to the second, scoring with the man advantage. Darcy Greenaway got his second of the night at 9:09, but it was not enough to mount a comeback. Cody McNaughton scored on the powerplay at 12:01 of the third period and the Storm took the game 6-3 and picked up two important points in the playoff race.

Sunday the Ottawa 67's rolled into town, looking for redemption after the Storm beat them 5-4 in Ottawa on February 10th. The opening period produced no goals, and no powerplay chances as each team stayed out of the box. Jason Dickinson opened the scoring at 6:15 of the second period. Ottawa answered back at 16:40 with a goal from Nicholas Foglia. Brock McGinn returned the favor just 94 second later. Cody McNaughton scored 1:19 after that to give the Storm a 2 goal lead going into the Third period. Ottawa scored twice in the third to tie the game and force overtime. After 65 minutes of play, the game headed to a shootout. The only player to score in the shootout was Jason Dickinson. The Storm won the game 4-3 and improved their shootout record to 1-4.

Tuesday night the Storm took on the Rangers at the Aud in their 8th and final meeting of the regular season. The first period provided several powerplay chances for both sides, but neither team could capitalize. Patrick Watling opened the scoring at 13:43 of the Second frame, but 27 seconds later Tobias Rieder answered back to tie the game. Kitchener would score 4 unanswered goals in the third period and go 2/8 on the power play. Kitchener was awarded a penalty shot late in the game, but Catenacci could not get it past Sparks, who faced 38 shots.
