Guelph Storm News Release
The Guelph Storm took to the ice Friday night to face off against the Owen Sound Attack at the Sleeman Centre. Owen Sound opened the scoring in the first period with a goal from Daniel Zweep, but it wouldn't take long for the home side to answer back. Just 49 seconds later, Tyler Bertuzzi notched his 5th of the year. The second period was nothing short of exciting for the fans. The Storm would get on the board three times, including Daniel Poliziani's first goal of his OHL career. Owen Sound was able to score once in the second frame. The home side took a 4-2 lead to the dressing room. The Storm added two more goals in the third to win the game 6-2. The Storm Powerplay went 3/8, while Owen Sound was unable to capitalize with the man advantage going 0/5.
The team traveled to Sarnia Saturday night. Zack Mitchell opened the scoring at 1:46 of the first period, notching his 30th goal of the season. Francis Menard made the game 2-0 at 7:24. Sarnia cut the Storm lead in half just over a minute into the second period with a powerplay goal from Reid Boucher. Cody McNaughton regained the 2 goal lead for the Storm with a powerplay goal at the 14:55 mark. Sanria answered back with the man advantage in the third period with Ryan Spooner's 27th goal of the year. Sarnia went on to score two consecutive goals to take the lead. Jason Dickinson tied the game for the Storm, and it looked like the game was headed to overtime. However, Nail Yakupov scored with just 4 seconds remaining in regulation. Sarnia took the game 5-4.
For the second time in less than a week the Storm hosted the Kitchener Rangers. Looking for redemption following their 6-1 loss on Family Day, the Storm were ready to make a statement against their Highway 7 rivals. Hunter Garlent set the tone early with a powerplay goal at 2:12 of the first period. Kitchener answered back with a powerplay goal from Max Iafrate. Zack Mitchell ensured the home side would take a lead to the dressing room, and scored his 31st of the year just over a minute after Iafrate's goal. Scott Kosmachuk scored the only goal of the second period. The Storm powerplay would prove sucessful for the second time in the game with a goal from Menard at 7:44. Kosmachuk scored his second of the night to give the Storm a 4 goal lead. Kitchener would score twice in the last 5 minutes of the game, giving the Rangers fans something to cheer about, but Tyler Bertuzzi scored an empty net goal at 17:54 and the Storm took the game 6-3.
