Friday Night Hockey in Storm City returned to the Sleeman Centre as the Saginaw Spirit came to town. Saginaw opened the scoring early in the first period with a goal from Carlos Amestoy. Guelph had a chance to get on the board when Tanner Richard was awarded a penalty shot at 9:19 of the frame. The Spirit would go on to score 3 more unanswered goals in the first period, from Dalton Young, Vincent Trocheck and Justin Kea. The hometown Storm got on the board with a powerplay goal from Zack Mitchell at 14:45 of the period. Goals in the third period came from Trocheck (Saginaw) and Andrey Pedan (Guelph). Guelph was 1/6 on the powerplay, while Saginaw went 2/4. Saginaw won the game 5-2.

The Storm traveled to Oshawa to face the Generals on Sunday afternoon. Cody McNaughton opened the scoring early in the first period, notching his 17th goal of the season. The Storm would go to the dressing room with a 1-0 lead at intermission. The Generals scored twice in the second period with goals from Scott Laughton and Sebastian Uvira. Matt Finn tied the game with a powerplay goal at 3:42 of the third period. Oshawa would answer back with two more goals to end the game 4-2. Zack Mitchell earned second star honors on the road, tallying 2 assists.

Tuesday night the team headed to Kitchener to battle against their Highway 7 Rivals. The Rangers opened the scoring early in the game with a powerplay goal from Ryan Murphy. Kitchener took a 2-0 lead at 13:18 with a goal from Catenacci. Ryan Horvat would answer back for the Storm at 15:24 to bring the visitors within a goal to end the period. Andrey Pedan scored on the powerplay at 8:23 of the second frame, followed by the go ahead goal by Mac Nichol. It was Nichol's first goal of the season. Kitchener would score 4 more goals in the second period and would win the game 6-3.

Storm Forecast

The Guelph Storm continue their 5-game road stretch this weekend when they head to Ottawa Friday night to take on the 67's. Saturday they will head to Belleville to face the Bulls, and finish up their road trip with a game in Kingston on Sunday against the Frontenacs.

The Storm return to the Sleeman Centre on February 17th when the Sarnia Sting come to town. Puck drop is 7:30pm. Tickets for the game are still available and can be purchased online or by visiting or calling the Storm Box Office at 519-837-9690.

Sunday January 29th, RBC and the Guelph Storm celebrated RBC Play Hockey� Day. The Storm wore Guelph Giants replica jerseys in support of the special needs hockey club.

These special jerseys will be auctioned off online between Thursday, February 2nd - Thursday, February 9th with all net proceeds going directly to the Guelph Giants Special Needs Hockey Club.

RBC Play Hockey� Day also raised money for the Guelph Giants through all tickets sold at local RBC branches plus 50/50 proceeds from the day also benefited the Giants. In addition, RBC Play Hockey� donated $2,000 to the Giants to launch the fundraiser.

2nd Annual "Storm the Giants" Charity game!

The Guelph Storm & Guelph Giants would like to thank everyone who came out to the 2nd Annual "Storm the Giants" Charity game! In the events second year, there was an overwhelming response, and the event raised over $1000. Members of the Guelph Giants got to showcase their skills to their local heroes on the Storm!

Carstar Collision of the Month

Each week during the 2011-12 season, the Guelph Storm will name a Collision of the Game. Congratulations to Tyler Bertuzzi who won the hit of the month for December.

At the end of each month, fans will get the opportunity to vote for the CARSTAR Collision of the Month and eventually the CARSTAR Collision of the Year.

Voting is now open for the CARSTAR Collision of the month for January. Watch the video and decide who you think should win the CARSTAR Collision of the Month.

Coach4Food Practices Underway!

The Guelph Storm is pleased to announce that the Coach4Food practices are underway! The second Coach4Food practice was held this past Monday, February 6th when the Guelph Jr. Storm Minor Atom A team took to the ice with General Manger Mike Kelly, Assistant Coach Chris Hajt and Storm players Brock McGinn and Spencer Turcotte.

All practices will be held at the Sleeman Centre between 4:30 and 5:20. These practices are open to the public, and fans are encouraged to come out and watch!

In its first year running in Guelph, there was an overwhelming response from the teams that took part as over 11,500 pounds of food was collected.

Champions for Education School Visits:

Throughout the season, Storm players like to visit local elementary schools to present the Champions for Education program. They present the Fun Fit program which focuses on healthy active living, and why it is important as an athlete and a student. Players also present the Read to Succeed program to primary students and reinforce the concept of literacy, school, community, respect, excellence and anti-bullying.

This week players will travel to St. John Kilmarnock School.
