Guelph Storm News Release
The Storm stumbled through a tough slate of games this past weekend, facing two of the OHL's top teams and a Divisional rival.
On Friday night, the Storm and its fans were silenced by a 6 goal start to the game when they faced the Barrie Colts at home. However, not to be shutout in the Teddy Bear Toss game, Matt Finn would score midway through the third period to get the bears to rain down. This goal opened the floodgates, as the Storm would get four more goals, from Scott Kosmachuk, Cody McNaughton, Tanner Richard, and Andrey Pedan, to pull within one. The Colts wouldn't let the home team steal the victory though, scoring two late goals to take the game 8-5.
On Saturday, the Storm traveled to Owen Sound to play the Attack in their second trip of the season to the Harry Lumley Bayshore Arena. Like the night before, the opposing team got on the board early and often, to take a 6-0 lead into the third period. Cody McNaughton would get the final goal of the game, and the only marker for the Storm, on the powerplay. The Storm lost this game 6-1.
Hoping to rebound from these tough loses, the Storm hosted the London Knights, the top-ranked team in the CHL, on Sunday afternoon. The Storm battled the Knights, resulting in a scoreless first period. Zack Mitchell would get the Storm on the board first in the second, with his 14th of the season. Early in the third, London equalized and the teams would end the game locked at 1-1. However, on a quick break up the middle, only 11 seconds into overtime, Max Domi would beat Storm netminder Garret Sparks to take the game for the Knights by a score of 2-1.
Storm Forecast
The Storm finish off their pre-Christmas schedule with two games this weekend. Friday night the Storm head to London to face the Knights before returning home Saturday for a 2:00 pm start against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.
Tickets for Saturday's game are still available and can be purchased online, or by calling the Storm Box Office at 519-837-9690 .
Player of the Week
The Guelph Storm announced that forward Cody McNaughton is the Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 11th.
The most consistent Storm player this week, Cody picked up three points (two goals and one assist) in three games and was a +2. On Friday against Barrie, the Petawawa native scored the third Storm goal of the night in the 8-5 loss to the Colts. Saturday in Owen Sound, the 19 year old netted his 13th of the season and the lone Storm goal of the night in the 6-1 loss. Sunday afternoon in the 2-1 overtime loss to the Knights, McNaughton set up Mitchell with a perfect cross ice pass for the first and only Storm tally of the game.
McNaughton currently sits third in Storm scoring with 28 points. He is third behind Zack Mitchell and Scott Kosmachuk for goals scored (13) and tied with Kosmachuk for the most powerplay markers with seven.
