Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Spirit made the trip up I-75 to take on their West Division Rivals, the Soo Greyhounds as Greg Gilbert made his head coaching debut for the Saginaw Spirit on Wednesday night. The Spirit would fall to the Greyhounds by the score of 3-1. Scoring the lone goal for the Spirit was Anthony Camara. Jake Paterson stopped 22 shots in net for the Spirit.
The first ten minutes of the opening frame was littered with penalties going to both teams. The Greyhounds would be the first to capitalize on the man advantage however, scoring less than 30 seconds into a Brad Walch high sticking penalty, to make the score 1-0. Scoring for the Greyhounds was Brandon Alderson with assists going to Nick Cousins and Joe Rogalski. About three minutes later, the Greyhounds would convert once again, this time off the stick of Michael Schumacher for his 18th goal of the season. The score would remain 2-0 in favor of the Soo heading into the first intermission.
The Saginaw Spirit came out in the second period flying. After being outshot in the first period 15-7, the Spirit held the Greyhounds to just three shots on goal in the second period, while putting 15 shots on Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray. 4:53 into the second period, Anthony Camara would score his sixth goal of the 2011-2012 season, with assists going to Brad Walch and Terry Trafford. Despite the lopsided period in the shot column, the Spirit would head into the intermission still trailing 2-1.
At 5:35 of the third period, the Greyhounds winger Corey Durocher would net his 12th goal of the season to put his team up 3-1. Saginaw would continue to put the pressure on the Greyhounds but would fail to put another goal past Murray, as the Greyhounds defeated the Spirit 3-1.
