AMJ Player of the Week

The Guelph Storm announced today that forward Mathew Sisca is the AMJ Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday, December 14th.

Sisca was the leading Storm point getter this week picking up 6 goals in four games. Held off the score sheet on Tuesday against Kitchener and Sunday against Kingston, Sisca netted four goals in the Storm's 8-1 win over the Attack on Friday and added two more on Saturday In the 7-3 loss to the Knights. The Woodbridge native becomes the first Storm player to score four goals in a game since Luke Pither did it back in 2007-08 against, coincidentally, the Owen Sound Attack. Sisca was named Friday's first star of the game.

Recording six goals this past week, Sisca currently sits fourth in team scoring with 23 points. In his last eight games, the 19 year old has recorded nine goals, making him second on the Storm in goals with 16. His three power play goals on the weekend move him into a first place tie with Taylor Beck for the most goals scored with the man advantage (7).

Next up, the Storm head to Kitchener on Friday night to face off against the Rangers for the fourth time in less than a month. On Saturday at the Sleeman Centre the Storm host the Plymouth Whalers on Saturday in a rare afternoon game at 2:00 pm in the last game before the Christmas break. Tickets are still available for Saturday and can be purchased online or by visiting or calling the Guelph Storm Box Office at 519-837-9690.

Storm Acquires Gottschalk

The Storm announced that they have traded captain Matt Kennedy to the Barrie Colts in exchange for defenceman Ryan Gottschalk along with Sudbury's 3rd pick in 2010, Barrie's second in 2011 and 2012.

Kennedy was drafted by the Storm in the 7th round, 129th overall, of the 2005 OHL Priority Selection. After playing 13 games as a late season call-up in his first season with Guelph, the Horseshoe Valley native would go to on to play four full seasons recording over 130 points in a Storm uniform. At the end of the 2008-09 season, Kennedy joined the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL in an amateur tryout. He recorded one goal in four games played.

Kennendy was drafted in the 5th round, 131st overall, by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Offered an AHL contract with the Albany River Rats to start the 2009-10 season, Kennedy declined, deciding to return to Guelph for his OA season. Suffering through injury and a recent suspension, the Storm captain played only 14 games so far this season.

"Matt is a great kid", Brooks said. "I had a really strong relationship with him so this isn't easy for me, it's like trading away my younger brother."

Gottschalk, signed as a free agent with the Colts in 2006 and has played in Barrie ever since. Weighing in at 5.11 and 195 lbs, the Markham native is in his overage season. He finished last season with 29 points including 10 goals to lead all Barrie blueliners.

"Ryan is a great defensive defenseman. He is a heart and soul player, great on the PK and a good leader. Moving Matt and his leadership out, we are hoping Ryan will help replace some of that and help with the leadership of the team."

Ryan will join his new teammates on Friday night in Kitchener and make his home debut on Saturday as the Storm host the Plymouth Whalers for a 2:00 pm start time.

Jim Sullivan-Storm Season Ticket Holder of the Month

Before the Storm's home game against the Owen Sound Attack last Friday night, long time season ticket holder Jim Sullivan was honoured for his support to the team. With a puck drop ceremony before the game and a personalized Storm jersey, the Storm wanted to thank Jim for his dedication.

1. How long have you been a season ticket holder?

He has been a season ticket holder since the 1998/99 season but has supported the team by purchasing walk up tickets since the beginning.

2. What is your favourite part of attending Storm games?

Excitement of Junior hockey, the fans and the atmosphere, watching the team win and show professionalism on the ice. He also has a personal attachment to hockey as he has coached in the past so he enjoys the game on that level as well.

3. What's the best thing about being a season ticket holder?

You get the same seats for every game, which is hard to do as a casual/walk up fan. You get special playoff pricing and seat selection. Great benefits but the biggest one is that he is supporting the team and he will always have a season ticket because of that.

4. Who are your favourite past and current Storm players and why?

Past - Jeff O'Neill because he was the most fun and skilled player to watch. He was an unbelievable player at the Junior level. Marty St. Pierre because he had great heart and never gave up.

Current - Matt Sisca because he has a great work ethic which is starting to pay off with results. Taylor Beck because he shows a lot of heart and is a good team player.

5. Which mascot to you prefer, Spyke or Stormy?

Spyke
