Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers (58-45) could not complete the sweep of the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (41-59), dropping the series finale by a score of 2-1. The loss snapped Omaha's win streak at seven games, which was tied for their longest streak of the 2015 season, but the Storm Chasers remain 5.0 games back in the division as Oklahoma City also lost.
The Storm Chasers struck first with a run in the second inning, scoring on a RBI single from Casey Kotchman. After that run the Storm Chasers could not add to their lead stranding a runner at either second or third in four different innings and going 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position. Yohan Pino went 6.2 innings on the night, leaving the game due to injury in the seventh, and has not allowed a run in his 12.2 innings.
The lack of timely hitting opened the door for the Sky Sox, who plated two runs in the eighth off reliever Casey Coleman. Elian Herrera tied the game with a RBI single, then two batters later Jason Rogers doubled Herrera home for the game-deciding run. The Storm Chasers offense managed only one baserunner in the final three innings, a two-out walk in the ninth for Kotchman. Francisco Pena stepped to the plate and grounded out after a lengthy at-bat to seal the loss.
The defeat not only snapped Omaha's win streak, but was their first loss at home this season when leading after seven innings (27-1). The Storm Chasers also lost a rare game when scoring first, as they entered the contest with the best winning percentage in the Pacific Coast League when striking first (now 37-12).
Omaha now travels to Round Rock, searching for their first win at the Dell Diamond this season after being swept there in mid-May. In the series opener, Chasers RHP Miguel Almonte (1-0, 2.70 ERA) faces off with Express RHP Alec Asher (3-5, 4.91 ERA). First pitch on 1180 Zone 2 The Deuce and MiLB.TV is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
