Story And Bowman Tabbed As Players Of The Week

Published on July 27, 2015 under Pacific Coast League (PCL1) News Release

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Trevor Story of the Albuquerque Isotopes and Matt Bowman of the Las Vegas 51s were awarded the Pacific Coast League's Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of July 20-26, the league office announced today.

Trevor Story led the PCL in eight offensive categories this week, highlighted by ten extra-base hits, 31 total bases, and 1.728 OPS. The middle infielder also held league-highs in hits (13), doubles (six), home runs (four), RBI (11), and slugging percentage (1.728). He recorded the second-best batting average with a .500 clip, while hitting safely in all six games he played. Story is currently on a streak of five-straight multi-hit games, with his last game on Saturday compiling a career-high three doubles. He powered Albuquerque to a 9-4 victory at Reno Tuesday by hitting two home runs and producing four RBI. Story has a .301 average and 12 doubles since joining the Isotopes on June 30.

The 22-year-old is in his fifth season of professional baseball, having been chosen by the Colorado Rockies in the first round (45th overall) of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Irving (Texas) High School. Baseball America currently ranks him as the Rockies sixth-best prospect in their organization. Story's Player of the Week honor is the second of his career, with the previous coming in 2011 with the Casper Ghosts of the Pioneer League. The weekly accolade is the first for an Isotopes' position player since Alex Castellanos took the award for July 1-7, 2013.

Matt Bowman threw the first complete-game shutout of his career, when he held Fresno scoreless for nine innings Tuesday at Cashman Field. The right-handed pitcher limited the Grizzlies to two singles and three walks during his 114-pitch outing. He also tallied 16 groundouts, six strikeouts, and retired six-consecutive batters three times during the course of the game. Bowman made one other start this week, earning a no decision Sunday during Las Vegas' 15-9 victory at Reno. He yielded nine hits in 3.1 innings that night, but none of those hits went for extra bases. The Washington D.C. native has recorded seven wins this season for the 51s, and is currently tied for the league-lead with 20 starts and two complete games.

Bowman, 24, was a 13th round draft selection by the New York Mets in 2012 out of Princeton University. The Pitcher of the Week accolade is the first of his four-year professional career. Bowman joins Noah Syndergaard, Duane Below, and Darin Gorski as 51s pitchers to earn a weekly honor from the PCL this season. The four Pitcher of the Week awards are the most ever for Las Vegas in a single-season, and they are the first PCL club to achieve the feat since the 2013 Tacoma Rainiers.
