Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Round Rock, Texas - The Round Rock Express built a 6-1 lead through four innings then answered the Oklahoma City Dodgers' runs the rest of the way in an 11-5 win Monday night at Dell Diamond in the finale of the season series between the teams.
The Dodgers (62-39) scored runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but the Express answered in the bottom of the inning each time to maintain and extend their lead. Both teams finished the night with 12 hits.
With Monday's victory, the Express exited the current four-game series with a split, while Oklahoma City won the season series, 11-5.
The 11 runs scored by the Express (58-43) were the most allowed by the Dodgers since a 14-1 loss June 1 against Fresno at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
Round Rock built a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning. Antoan Richardson drew a leadoff walk, and later scored on a fielder's choice. Ed Lucas then hit a two-run home run to left field.
The Dodgers got a run back in the top of the second on a RBI single to right field on a line drive from Kyle Jensen, which brought home O'Koyea Dickson, who singled. Jensen went on to finish the night 4-for-4 for his first four-hit game of the season.
In the bottom of the second inning, Chris Gimenez walked before the Express strung together four straight singles, including RBI singles by Hanser Alberto and Ryan Strausborger for a 5-1 Round Rock lead.
Round Rock went ahead, 6-1, in the fourth inning when Strausborger hit a RBI double to left.
The Dodgers cut the Express lead to 6-3 in the top of the fifth inning with two outs. Darwin Barney doubled and Corey Seager walked before Chris Heisey brought both runners home on a two-run single to right field.
Round Rock responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Jared Hoying homered on a fly ball to right field and Richardson hit a two-out RBI triple on a line drive to right field to jump out to an 8-3 advantage.
The Dodgers took back a run in the top of the sixth inning when Ralph Henriquez connected on a RBI double to right field and cut Round Rock's lead to 8-4.
In the bottom of the frame with the bases loaded, Oklahoma City reliever Steve Smith issued a bases-loaded walk to Gimenez to score Strausborger and extend the Express lead to 9-4. Strausborger finished the night 3-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Barney hit his third homer of the season on a fly ball to left field to lead off the seventh inning for Oklahoma City and cut the Express lead to 9-5.
Round Rock once again was able to answer in the bottom of the inning. A double to the wall in right field by Joey Gallo drove in two runs for Round Rock in the bottom of the seventh inning for an 11-5 Express edge.
Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Cahill (0-2) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs and seven hits over four innings. He issued four walks and had three strikeouts.
The Dodgers pitching staff issued a combined eight walks in the loss.
Starting pitcher Ross Wolf earned the win for the Express. He allowed four runs on eight hits with two walks and three strikeouts over 5.1 innings.
The Dodgers fell to 3-6 on their current 13-game road trip, which continues Tuesday when they open a four-game series in Memphis at 7:05 p.m. at AutoZone Park.
