Inland Empire 66ers News Release
San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino dropped the opener of a three-game series at San Manuel Stadium 4-1 to the Lake Elsinore Storm on Friday. The loss dropped the 66ers to 11-18 on the season against the San Diego Padres Cal League affiliate.
Inland Empire (45-72, 19-29) took a 1-0 lead against southpaw Aaron Leasher (10-6) in the second when Orlando Martinez smacked a RBI double to right knocking home Gleyvin Pineda. The 66ers left the bases loaded in the second after stranding two in the first. The club never sniffed the scoreboard after the second with just three more baserunners reaching and none advancing past first base. The Storm (60-56, 25-23) tied the game in the third on Allen Cordoba's RBI single. Eguy Rosario added a RBI single in the sixth while Jeisson Rosario's solo homer in the seventh made it 3-1. It was J. Rosario's second homer of the year and came against 66ers' starter Travis Herrin (3-4) who took the loss allowing three runs on 6.2 innings. The Storm capped their scoring in the eighth on a Gabriel Arias' RBI single. Martinez' double for the Sixers pushed his hit streak to 14-games while Pineda's single that frame moved his streak to seven. Javy Guerra pitched a perfect ninth for the Storm to earn the save; it was the first career save for the converted shortstop.
The 66ers host Lake Elsinore Saturday at 6:05 pm. The contest can be seen and heard live at 66ers.com.
