Seattle Storm News Release

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today announced its 34-game schedule for the 2005 WNBA regular season, the franchise's sixth year in the league. Highlights of the 2005 Storm regular-season schedule include 10 weekend games against the best in the WNBA including Los Angeles, Houston, New York and Charlotte.

The defending WNBA Champion Storm will open their 2005 season on ABC-TV against their Western Conference rival Los Angeles Sparks at KeyArena on Saturday, May 21 at 1 p.m. The following weekend, Seattle will host the Houston Comets on Friday, May 27 and the San Antonio Silver Stars on Sunday, May 29.

In the season opener against the Sparks, the 2004 WNBA Championship banner will be raised to the KeyArena rafters and the Storm players will also receive their championship rings.

"Opening the coming WNBA season in front of ABC's national television audience against Los Angeles is a tremendous way to start our 2005 campaign," said Storm Head Coach Anne Donovan. "This is a great schedule for us, and the attention we're receiving as defending champions shows how popular the Storm franchise has become."

Six of the Storm's 34 games will be broadcast nationally, including a matchup at Connecticut on Tuesday, June 7 on ESPN2. The Storm's 2005 WNBA regular season will close Saturday, Aug. 27 against the Phoenix Mercury on ESPN2.

The Storm's 2004 WNBA Finals opponent, the defending Eastern Conference Champion Connecticut Sun, will return to KeyArena on Wednesday, June 22.

"Storm fans are very excited about hosting our rival Los Angeles Sparks for opening weekend," Storm Chief Operating Officer Karen Bryant said. "Just like last year's Finals, the Storm faithful are ready to bring their energy and enthusiasm back to the Key for this great schedule."

Other marquee games in 2005 at KeyArena include the Storm's Western Conference Finals rematch with the Sacramento Monarchs on Sunday, July 3 and the team's showdown with 2003 WNBA Champion Detroit Shock on Saturday, July 23.

The 2005 Storm preseason schedule will be announced at a later date. The attached 2005 Storm regular-season schedule is also available at storm.wnba.com.
