Charlotte Sting Annouce 2005 Schedule
January 6, 2005 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA)
Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting announced the 2005 regular season schedule today, tipping off their ninth season on Saturday, May 21, at the Charlotte Coliseum against the Washington Mystics at 6 p.m. It marks the fifth year in a row the Sting has opened the season in the Queen City.
The Sting, who hold the first overall pick in this Spring's WNBA Draft, will open the season by playing three of the first four games at home, featuring star opponents Alana Beard (Washington), Lisa Leslie (Los Angeles) and last year's top pick Diana Taurasi (Phoenix).
The team faces a season-long three-game road trip on two occasions and plays five straight contests at home from June 12 to June 28. That homestand includes a match-up against the defending champion Seattle Storm on Sunday, June 12, at 4 p.m.
Other schedule highlights include home contests against Eastern Conference rivals Detroit (Aug. 6 and Aug. 23) and New York (June 25 and Aug. 12) as well as away games at Los Angeles on July 12 and at Phoenix on July 13. The Sting will also travel to Seattle on July 29 to take on the Storm's Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson. The season finale will be played against Connecticut on Aug. 27, at the Charlotte Coliseum.
In addition, Charlotte will play 17 of its 34 games on the weekends, with eight slated for the Charlotte Coliseum. All Sting home games will begin at 7 p.m. on weekdays and either 4 or 6 p.m. on the weekends. The lone exception will be the annual "camp day" game, tipping off at noon on Tuesday, July 9, against the Connecticut Sun.
The Sting will play one nationally-televised game at Washington on Tuesday, August 2, at 8 p.m. The local television schedule will be announced at a later date. All games will be broadcast on the radio home of the Charlotte Sting, WNMX 106.1 FM.
The WNBA season will begin with five games on May 21, including the Los Angeles Sparks at Seattle Storm game televised on ABC beginning at 4 p.m. After being on hiatus due to last season's Olympic break, the All-Star Game will return this summer at Connecticut's Mohegan Sun Arena on July 9, at 4 p.m.
Charlotte Sting season tickets begin at just $102 and are available now by calling a ticket sales representative at (704) 424-WNBA. Fans can also download a full season schedule and further ticket information at www.charlottesting.com.
