SEATTLE, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 - The Seattle Storm and Pitney Bowes have joined forces in a new program to raise funds for a local literacy program. The Storm's "Fast Break to Reading" program is part of a national collaboration with the WNBA and Pitney Bowes to raise awareness and funds for literacy programs in local communities. Through a special "Fast Break to Reading" ticket offer, the Storm will raise money for the First A.M.E. Child and Family Center, an educational and social services agency providing support to children in the Capitol Hill, Central Area, Rainier Valley, and North Beacon Hill neighborhoods.
The Storm is one of six Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) teams selected to participate in this national program with Pitney Bowes. The Storm is offering special "Fast Break to Reading" tickets for select Storm home games, and a portion of the proceeds from each ticket purchased will be donated to the A.M.E. Child and Family Center. In addition to donating a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, the Storm will also be competing with other WNBA teams to win a refurbished Reading and Learning Center for our community.
Storm home games offering "Fast Break to Reading" tickets for area youth include:
Sunday, June 29 vs. Washington Mystics
Sunday, July 27 vs. Sacramento Monarchs
Thursday, August 28 vs. Houston Comets
Saturday, September 6 vs. Minnesota Lynx
For each of these home games, the first 200 fans to purchase a "Fast Break to Reading" ticket will have an opportunity to participate in a Meet and Greet Session with a Storm player, as well as receive "Fast Break to Reading" premium items. Storm guard Katie Gearlds will be available for a Meet and Greet Event on June 29 and she will also talk to fans about the importance of encouraging youth to read.
