Brandon, Manitoba -- Veteran center Ryan Stone has been selected the Wheat Kings' Jack Fraser Player of the Month for the opening five weeks of the 2004-2005 Western Hockey League season.

Stone earned the honours by finishing the month of October as one of the league's leading scorers. Entering Tuesday's game against the Blazers in Kamloops, the 19-year old Calgary product is tied with Medicine Hat's Clarke MacArthur and Wacey Rabbit of the Saskatoon Blades for second place in the WHL scoring race with ten goals and 21 points.

A second round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2003 National Hockey League entry draft, Stone has four powerplay, two shorthanded and two game winners among his ten goals.

Stone has managed at least a point in ten of the Wheat Kings first thirteen games and began the year by scoring at least a point in eight straight.

During his four year WHL career, "Stoner" has 55 goals and 107 assists for 162 points in 182 regular season games. Earlier this season, he surpassed the 100-assist and 150-point plateaus.

In winning the honour, Stone edged out Washington Capitals' first round draft choice Eric Fehr for the monthly award. Like Stone, Fehr is currently among the league leaders in scoring with eleven goals and 18 points.

In recognition of the honour, Stone will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Jack Fraser in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings.

The Wheat Kings 7-game west coast road trip continues Tuesday night in Kamloops against the Blazers. Brandon will be out to put the brakes to a 3-game winless streak after losing back to back 2-1 decisions this past weekend - in Vancouver and Kelowna.
