October 7, 2010 - ECHL (ECHL)
Alaska Aces News Release

For the second straight night, the Alaska Aces outshot the Stockton Thunder, but for the second straight night, the Thunder goaltender stole the show. Jason Lindner made 35 saves and Chris D'Alvise scored the tie-breaking goal midway through the third period as the Thunder edged the Aces 2-1 in Alaska's exhibition finale Wednesday night from the Sullivan Arena. The Aces completed the preseason with a pair of closes losses to the Thunder, and will look ahead to October 15th and 16th when the Utah Grizzlies visit Alaska to open up the 2010-2011 regular season. The Thunder opened the scoring on a beautiful play at 6:55 of the first period. Jordan Foreman caught Aces goaltender Gerald Coleman moving to his left on a quick pass and Marcus Watson tapped the feed into the vacant net to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. The Aces outshot the Thunder 13-6, but were held scoreless in the frame.

Just as was the case on Tuesday, the Aces struck in the second period. Brian Swanson rushed into the zone on a breakaway, and beat Lindner for his first goal with the Aces at 5:26 to tie the score 1-1. Garry Nunn and Mads Schaarup got the assists. The Aces outshot the Thunder 13-9 in the second, and the game remained deadlocked heading into the third.

In the final period D'Alvise scored on a rebound in the slot after Coleman stopped a rising initial shot at 7:58 to make it 2-1 Thunder. With just two minutes remaining, Stockton forward Jim McKenzie was pulled down on a breakaway and awarded a penalty shot, but Coleman made a right pad save to keep the Aces within one. Alaska pulled their goaltender, searching for the equalizer, but could not tie the score as the Thunder completed the exhibition season sweep.

Gerald Coleman (0-1) suffered the loss, making 20 of 22 saves, and Jason Lindner (1-0) earned the victory with 35 saves on 36 shots. The Aces power played went 0-10, while the Thunder went 0-2. Alaska outshot Stockton 36-22 in the game.

The Aces would like to thank everybody who helped their two-night, "Purple with Purpose" pre-season fundraiser to help the fight against cancer. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, and the jersey auction will go to benefit the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Focus Inc.
